Hi there, I'm Christy Wilhelmi with Gardenerd and I'm here to show you how to harvest buttercrunch lettuce. Harvesting buttercrunch lettuce is really easy, it's a type of lettuce that forms loose heads which means you can either wait until it forms a whole head and pick the entire plant or you can do what I do which is pick the individual leaves over time. Now if you do want to pick the whole head of lettuce at once you can use pruning shears and basically lift back all the leaves and cut it right at the base, but why do that when you can enjoy the plant for about three months, it'll keep producing because the leaves grow from the center and the outside leaves are the ones that you harvest. So basically all you have to do is pick the outside leaves with your fingers or with pruning shears if you doubt your agility at all you can just stick your fingers in there and you go into the outside leaves of your lettuce and you're going to the find the, the part that's attaching to the base of the plant and basically at that point your just going to dig in with your thumb and just pinch and twist a little bit to one side or the other and the leaf comes right off and if you have any trouble with that you use pruning shears instead and that will ensure you don't pull the plant out of the ground. So just harvest the outside leaves and enjoy a salad and you'll be able to do that for about three months. I'm Christy Wilhelmi of Gardenerd and this was how to harvest buttercrunch lettuce.
