Hi, I'm Devra Gartenstein with Quirky Gourmet. Today, I'm going to show you how to steam spinach. I got some pre-washed spinach, and you can buy spinach in bunches and wash it, but I find this makes the whole process a lot simpler. Here I have a steamer. It's a perforated pan on top of another pan with boiling water. Now, you can use a folding steamer basket. It adjusts to fit inside whatever pan you have, or you can use really anything perforated that you can set into boiling water so the steam comes through. You could use a wire strainer, you can use a pasta colander, as long as it's metal. Spinach only takes about thirty seconds to cook. So, I'm going to put it in here. Gonna cover it up. And you give it just a little bit in there. The key is to not overcook it, it's very easy to overcook it and it can get slimy if you overcook it. So, it's been just about thirty seconds. It might be a little longer if the flame you're using is pretty low. Here you go. Steamed spinach. If you steam it too long it's going to start to lose its color. So, the key that it's done to a really nice doneness is that it's a bright dark green color.
