Hi, I'm Holly Hirshberg from Dinner Garden, and I'm going to show you how to set the kitchen table. This is a nice time, in the kitchen when you're eating, for families to be together and enjoy each other's company. And, that really is facilitated by having a nice setup in your kitchen. I'm going to use plastic dishes today, because the kids are going to be here, and we want it to be child-friendly. I don't want to have to worry about anybody breaking anything. So, what I'm going to do is, each person's going to get a plate. The reason you set the table is so that everybody has everything they need right there, and no one has to get up while they're eating and get anything. We don't want it to be inconvenient for anybody. We want this to be a time when we can all just sit and relax together. So, everybody's going to have a plate, everybody's going to have a bowl if I'm serving salad, everybody's going to have a cup. Now, I know that people get intimidated by using silverware, flatware, utensils. They get intimidated by how those are going to be, because we've all seen those movies where they have 400 forks and knives and spoons, and it's crazy. So, I'm not going to do that. I'm going to just do a regular setup. Everybody's going to have a fork, everybody's going to have a knife, and everybody's going to have a spoon. That way, no one will have to get up. Everyone can just sit and enjoy each other's company. And, that's really what we want when we're dining with our family, is we want to have a time where we can all just talk about what we did during the day, and enjoy each other as a family. Those childhood years go by quick, and you don't want to miss them. Okay, so, how it works, and it's going to work the same in a fancy restaurant as it is in my kitchen. I'm going to do a fork on the napkin, on the left. Then, I'm going to do my knife, and that's going to be facing the plate on the right. Next to the knife is going to be the spoon. I'm going to do that at each place, and that way everyone will know which is theirs. Sometimes, I know you've been at a restaurant where you're not sure which glass of water is yours, which spoon is yours. This way, it's at everybody's place in the same spot, and no one's going to get confused about what is theirs and what is someone else's. Now, the knife always faces the plate, so that you don't accidentally hit it with your hand and cut yourself, because nothing ruins a family dinner faster than an injury. Alright, so, we have everybody's knife, fork, and spoons. Everybody has a bowl, everybody has a cup. I'm going to put salt and pepper on the table so I don't have to jump up and get anything. All we need: The food, the kids, the family, and we can all enjoy dinner together. It's easy, it's festive, and it makes it look like we're all going to have a lot of fun.
