Purple Cabbage Centerpiece

It’s no secret that cruciferous vegetables are good for stir-frys and side dishes, but who knew that cabbages could moonlight as centerpieces as well? Simply peel back the outer leaves, stick in some fall foliage and you’ve got yourself an elegant, and edible, arrangement.

Hi, I'm Evette Rios, here on eHow.com. And I wanted to show you guys how you can make a cabbage and do a centerpiece. We also struggle sometimes on what we're going to put on our table, what's going to be the centerpiece, but all you need to do, trust me folks, is go to your refrigerator and get out a veggie. You may think I'm crazy, but vegetables make awesome centerpieces. I've got this beautiful cabbage here that I bought at the farmer's market. So I'm going to use my cabbage as a centerpiece. So just going to put it right, you know, orient it wherever you like, and then pull back some of these leaves. I just love, I love the color of this cabbage, this like, purple and the greens, I think it's so beautiful. And you know, if you want to keep it stable on one side, You can kind of trim the bottom so that it's nice and stable and you can kind of it around so that it looks real nice. OK, I'll peel some of these back. And then what I like to do is I like to take flowers and you know, you want to use colors that are either complementary or that are, you know, bring out the colors in the veggie, so I've got lots of purple flowers and stuff here, and I'm just going to start sort of tucking them to the little crannies around the outside. And there's no real like recipe for this. I mean you can kind of have fun with it. I love this blue stuff. I don't know exactly what it's called but it's so great looking, so I'm going to tuck that down in there too. And just pick, you know, pick flowers, you can even go out to your garden and get all of the flowers that you may have left over at the end of a season. But this is the kind of thing that's like so you just, it's so easy. It doesn't take any time, it barely takes any money at all. But it's going to really dress up your table. So you see, it's not like brain surgery, just kind of have fun with it, tuck them in there, but the colors really bring out all the colors in the cabbage. Then, another way that you can kind of bring that color throughout your table, is with your napkins. So this is my favorite napkin fold ever, you guys, this is called the pocket fold. I use this all the time. So basically you take out your napkin like this. And you're going to fold one side in to the middle, like that. And one side into the middle on the back side. Then you fold it in half, like this, and then in half again. And see you've got a little pocket. So this is perfect for your table, you put that right on top of your plate and then you can kind of style that to bring in the colors of your cabbage. So I've got some leftover flowers, I've got let me just put some purple ones in there. Maybe. And then stick them in your little pocket. And there you go. How easy was that? Super affordable, and fast. I'm telling you, you guys, just go to your kitchen and use what you have. Thank you so much for watching, I'm Evette Rios, here on eHow.com. See you soon.

The Fried Chicken to End All Fried Chicken

There are, by my count, at least seven levels of fried chicken. The worst of them is good; the best, which I waited forty-four years…
