Hi, I'm Kelli Ellis, of Kelli Ellis Interiors, here to talk about kitchen and bath ideas for your home. One of the rules about design is there are no rules and by that I mean don't be afraid to break the rules. Now technically you know we dress ourselves, we like to find things that match. We don't want to stand out but sometimes as with any trend or design idea, be it your clothing or your home, you kind of want things to mix and match. You don't want things to look so matchy matchy. I'm not a fan of matchy matchy. So here's a great example of that. In your bathroom don't be afraid to mix finishes. I so often hear from clients oh well, you know we have oil, we can't use stainless or we have brass, we can't use oil rubbed, not true. Here's a great example of that. I've got stainless faucets. I have brass surrounds on my mirrors. I've got oil rubbed towel holders. Everything's here literally within a foot of each other and it all works. And the reason it all works is because the overall scheme of the bathroom has a unifying color. It's all very neutral. It's all very toned down. So we've got our Earth tones. We've got our travertines. We have our tum bolts. We have clean line, brown, brown towels, yet it still works. So think of the big picture. When you're shopping and you're choosing things and selecting things for your bathroom, don't be so fixated on all the finishes have to match and don't be so fixated on everything's got to be the same color or same sheen or same, same, same. You don't want that. What makes it interesting and adds depth is to mix and match your styles. So the same principles hold true in the kitchen. You really want to not be afraid to mix and match your styles, perfect example is here I've got some Italian inspired canned goods, modern pottery and this gorgeous woven Asian lantern, large in scale. Now I know it seems scary so when you go accessory shopping try to think outside the box of what you would normally do and buy a bunch of little accessories, put them in the room and hope it makes that impact you're looking for because it's not going to. It's going to just look like a bunch of stuff. You really want to be impactful. So this is a great example. It's a very large piece and if I picked this piece out for you, again it's a lantern, it's beautiful. You don't have to put a candle in it but it just has the impact and I said put this on the top shelf for your display. Now you're going to have impact. Now you're going to have something to look at and that's what we're looking for. We're looking for something to draw our eye and to give us that wow factor. So again don't be afraid to mix your styles and go bold with your accessories.
