I'm Donna Emery from Glover Nursery in west Jordan, Utah. Today we're going to talk about taking care of snapdragons. Snapdragons like full sun to partial shade. In our hot dry sunny climate, they really do better with a little bit of shade. They bloom well all summer long if you take the time to dead head them. And that means to cut back the spent flowers. This stock has bloomed out almost all the way to the top. So, I'm going down to where the side shoots are appearing and getting rid of that flower. This one has already budded, so I know exactly where to cut. If I cut right here, these flowers are going to bloom in just a few days. Same with this one. This is a new variety called, Eternal, that has beautiful variegated foliage. So, it's pretty in your garden even if it's not blooming. But I'm going to take this ugly dead spike off, down to the side shoots, and it will bloom again and should last the rest of the summer. Throughout the summer you want to keep applying fertilizer, a granule or a liquid. Whenever they seem to slow down a little bit, give them a shot of fertilizer. Or make it a regularly scheduled thing, every month or so. I'm Donna Emery from Glover Nursery in west Jordan, Utah and we've been talking about snapdragons.
