Hi, I'm Marci Degman, the aspiring gardener. And today we're going to talk about taking care of a Maidenhair fern indoors. Now here's a southern Maidenhair fern that I have growing out in my garden. And what you want to do, if you're going to bring a plant in that's been outside, is you want to make sure and get it to adjust to the pot or whatever it is before the cold weather begins. So, at the end of summer, I dug up this rhizome and I've re-potted it in some nice rich soil. And I'm going to keep it outside just for a little bit in a pot just to get it to adjust first. Then when I bring it indoors, I'm going to have to deal with some new situations. The main thing that is going to be a problem is the indoor heat that it's going to endure during the winter. So, you want to make sure that you never place it near a furnace or a really direct heat source. Because it's a moisture loving plant and the foliage will dry out really fast. So, put it in a spot that's going to be less likely to dry it out. It's a shade plant so it doesn't have to be in a window or anywhere that's sunny. It just needs to be away the heat. So, do that, water it regular, make sure that's it well drained because you can easily over water when you're concerned about something drying out. So, make sure that you water it, let it dry out a little bit in between. But then water good. But the then thing you're going to have to do that you don't do outside, is you're going to have to mist it. So, besides watering the plant itself, whenever the soil is dry, you're going to have to mist a Maidenhair fern inside. And if you even do that each day during the worst part of winter, it'll get through. But if you forget to do that, you'll have a lot of brown leaves. And that's how you take care of a Maidenhair fern indoors.
