The lion's share of Land Rover's success is that it belongs just about everywhere. A Land Rover can belong in the verdant green Amazon as easily as it can in the neon glitz and glam of South Beach or Paris. It can climb the Malvern Hills of England, or it can ferry a bottle of champagne to the snowy mountain peaks of Argentina. Doubtless, if it could speak, the typical Land Rover would see its Homelink control system as something of an escape button. After all, a garage is probably the only place on Earth where this legend of trail…
As technology has advanced over the years, we have been blessed with automatic locking hubs, push-button four wheel drive and shift on the fly four wheel drive. With all the advances and conveniences, it is no surprise we would eventually have trucks that can engage four-wheel drive for us when we need it. The four-wheel drive switch on your 2002 Chevy truck has four different options: 4-high, 4-low, 2-high and auto-mode. Anybody who has experience with four-wheel drive knows what the basic high and low functions do, but when to use automatic four-wheel drive might leave you a little confused.
Ahhh...these are the days that try mens' souls, and spur the beleaguered to lay blasphemies. As though knowing something were wrong under your hood weren't bad enough, it is the saltiest of all salt in the wound when your hood cable breaks following an engine problem. And you're right to curse the gods, old and new, for your luck; because this one is probably going to cost you. Specifically, cost you a grille. But at least you'll get to break something with a hammer, and that may be enough to get you through the day.
Diesel engines are awesome; if the world made any kind of sense, we'd all be driving them. And Dodge's Cummins ISB is both one of the most impressive consumer-grade oil-burners out there and a groundbreaker in its own right. But even a machine as simple and tough as the 5.9-liter ISB can fail, especially after many years of use the way that you're supposed to use a diesel.
The process of mounting and wiring the factory stereo for your 2006 F-150 XLT truck can be accomplished without the need for complicated assembly instructions, or specialized tools. Installing the factory unit may prove necessary to after removing an existing aftermarket stereo, or after completing certain dashboard-related repairs.
Forget Mustangs and muscle cars. If there's any single type of vehicle that defines the American take on vehicular perfection, it's the pickup. Apart from being versatile and inherently manly, the pickup has been and probably always will be the last bastion of rear-wheel drive and V-8 power. But a truck is only as good as its bed, and a bed is only as good as what you're willing to put in it.
In 1953, the Ford F-350 made its debut alongside its brothers, the F-100 and F-250. Being the big brother of the group, the F-350 can endure a lot of abuse, but it still falls within the mechanical restraints of any vehicle. One of these restraints is that air in any hydraulic system causes that system to malfunction, which includes the F-350’s clutch system. Should you get air in the 1996 F-350’s slave cylinder, or you replace the slave cylinder with a new one, you must bleed the slave cylinder before the clutch correctly operates.
A bed liner protects your pickup truck from scratches and rust. It also provides a quieter ride and enhances your truck’s resale value. Although drop-in bed liners are available, they tend to move and scuff off paint between the liner and the bed. Moisture eventually finds its way underneath, and this causes out-of-sight corrosion. I solved this problem by applying a durable urethane-based plastic truck bed roll-on coating on my Toyota Hilux three years ago.
With its release in 1948, the first of Ford’s F-Series trucks set a benchmark for serviceability balanced with a viable purchase price and relatively economic upkeep. Still in production as of February 2012, the F-series has been the best-selling pickup in the U.S. for more than two decades and the best-selling vehicle for more than three. The years between 1980 and 1986 bracket the production of the seventh generation of F-Series trucks.
Automobiles were essentially invented as currency in the “he who dies with the most toys wins” battles among the late 18th century’s wealthiest; trucks, conversely, have always been a way to make work easier for the less affluent. Through two World Wars and several decades of development, lifted trucks have evolved from workhorses to art forms and back again.
A semi bottom truck is a dump truck commonly referred to as a belly dump truck. A belly dump truck includes the three-axle tractor rig and two-axle trailer. The trailer has the dump gate in the trailer’s belly. The purpose of a belly dump truck is to lay material on the ground in a long line, called a windrow. For agricultural goods such as hay or grain, the windrow allows the material to dry in the wind.
Lightning at your fingertips is available through the work of flyback transformers, also known as horizontal output transformers, horizontal sweep transformers, line output transformers or simply flybacks. This type of transformer works on the same concept as the Van de Graaf generator invented by Robert Jemison Van de Graaff. It produces a high voltage with a low current. Where the Van De Graaf has remained basically the same in design, the flyback transformer has changed with the development of new materials.
Rugged and steeped in history, the Willys Jeep was first produced in 1940, with the Willys pickup introduced seven years later. Factory equipped with four- and six-cylinder engines, the Willys’ Jeep vehicles were underpowered by modern standards. Designed for 1972 American Motors Corporation CJ-series Jeep vehicles, the AMC 360 V8 engine is a viable option for anyone wanting to upgrade a Willys pickup engine.
Van conversion from 2-wheel drive to 4-wheel drive can be done to almost any van. Kits are available for all makes and models and are highly recommended for safety and ease of installation. It is complicated, but if you follow a few basic steps, you can change the differential, install new spring lifters, suspension and all the necessary parts to complete the job by yourself. Just take it a step at a time and you can be driving a custom built 4-wheel drive van in one weekend.
Fiberglass truck bed covers, also known as tonneau covers, provide protection for the beds of pickup trucks. It prevents items in the truck bed from falling out while moving or being stolen while the truck is parked. Because it is flush with the top of the truck bed, it does not change the vehicle's profile as a truck cap does.
Waltco lift gates are installed on the rear of trucks, to enable easy loading and unloading of cargo. Waltco was launched in 1954, and has become the largest maker of hydraulic lift gates in the United States. Waltco lift gates are raised and lowered by an electric powered motor and a system of hydraulic pistons. The gates fold away when not in use, and become a platform akin to a small elevator when in action.
Bobcat is a company that manufactures front-end loading skid steers. A pusher plow is a type of snow plow that is mounted in a fixed position at the front of a lawn tractor or a skid steer, like the Bobcat. Plow attachments can be purchased for the Bobcat, as an extension. However, plow attachments can be costly. A common, fixed position plow attachment can be constructed from parts in a few hours.
The bumper cover on your 2006 GMC Sierra is held to the vehicle by a combination of bolts on the top of the bumper and on the support braces under the vehicle. Removing the bumper requires removing the front grille because it is attached to the bumper and prevents access to the upper mounting bolts. If the bumper is not being replaced and will be returned to the vehicle, have a safe place to put it while it is removed to prevent any damage.
Snow plows that mount to the front of pickups are extremely handy in areas that get hard snow accumulation, which a push snow thrower may have problems handling. But if the pickup won't be unavailable, the plow can be connected to the front of a skid steer. The main task in converting a plow is removing the mounting bracket from the pickup's front bumper and remounting it to the front of the skid steer.

Construction dump truck drivers transport loose materials needed for building projects, including various types of soil, stone, and asphalt. Being a construction dump truck driver requires a commercial driver's license, or CDL, and good safety skills. Drivers operate in hazardous conditions, but jobs are increasing. Specific training schools are available to receive instruction to obtain a CDL.
Ford trucks in the 1977 model year were available with a variety of engines, ranging from a 4.9-liter, 300-cubic-inch, inline-six cylinder to a 7.5-liter, 460-cubic-inch V-8. An interesting result of the many engine options was the use of two 5.8-liter, 351-cubic-inch V-8 engines. The 351 Windsor was named for the Windsor engine family that includes the 260, 289 and 302 cubic-inch V-8's. The other 351 cubic-inch engine is the 351 Modified, which is a member of the Ford 335-series family that includes the 351 Cleveland and 400 cubic-inch V-8's. There are several ways to positively identify which 351 engine you…

The Meyer snow plow allows for the efficient movement of large amounts of snow from blocked roadways and paths, but an oil leak can impede that efficiency and cause a mess if left unchecked. Immediate troubleshooting and repair is suggested, and fortunately you do not need a professional's costly help to fix your oil leak. You can clean the carburetor's air filter and fix the level of oil in your Meyer's oil reservoir even if you have never attempted to repair a snow machine's oil leak in the past.
Since New Jersey is stricken with snowstorms from time to time, residents of the state may find it useful to attach snowplows to their larger vehicles, such as their SUVs. Since there are no laws that limit the attachment of snow plows to vehicles, you can easily attach one to your own SUV while minding New Jersey law.
In a microprocessor, the central part of any computer, electronic signals flow along pathways called buses. The buses carry information through different internal parts of the microprocessor, such as its registers, the arithmetic and logic unit, and memory controller and circuits external to the microprocessor. A typical microprocessor has two main buses, one for memory addresses, the other for data.
Snow plows are a part of everyday life in regions that get heavy amounts of snowfall each winter. Shovels and walk-behind push snowblowers are also used to clear more restricted areas like driveways and walkways. These items are easy to store on a pull-behind trailer that hooks up to the back of the snow plow. There are a number of different types of hitch kits that can be made or assembled to fit on the back of a plow.
Over several years your yard may develop dips and hollows that are unsightly and could be dangerous. Most of this lumpiness occurs naturally, but can also be caused by animals digging, foot traffic or vehicles being driven on the lawn. Low areas can cause water to pool, breeding mosquitoes and possibly damaging plants. Filling and raking is a simple and effective method of grading an existing lawn. This is best done in the early spring so grass seed can be planted to cover bare spots.
There are several ways to cover the bed of any truck with any size bed, whether the purpose is to protect luggage or equipment while driving, or just protect the truck bed itself. All truck bed covering options mount and operate in different ways and have their own level of pricing and availability.
Introduced in 1969, the Hilux compact pickup truck was marketed by Toyota worldwide for over 40 years. The first four-wheel drive version of the truck was produced in 1979, and in 1981, an innovative sport utility-like variant was produced in cooperation with two major recreational-vehicle manufacturers. The Hilux underwent a redesign for the 1981 model year and was equipped with new powertrain components.
Many of good and not-so-good mechanics have replaced F-150 fuel pumps only to find out that the pickup still would crank but not start. What these mechanics failed to realize is that Ford fitted the F-150 with a fuel pump shut-off switch, which cuts off all power to the switch in the case of an accident or rollover. This switch has a nasty and annoying habit of losing its retention in the “On” position over time, causing the switch on an older F-150, like the 1991 model year, to activate just from taking a corner and bumping a curb. Resetting…
A transfer dump truck is capable of hauling a much larger load than a standard dump truck and is often used to haul such things as gravel or rock. Whereas a normal dump truck only has one container, the transfer dump truck has a second container in back of the first. The operator disconnects the trailer, then dumps the main load. Later he returns for the load in the second container. There is typically a tarp that is secured onto the top of the dump truck which prevents any of the load from blowing into traffic or spilling out. When…
Determining how much material you need to make a slipcover for your hide-a-bed couch requires accurate measurements so the cover fits properly. Sewing the cover requires simple skills, making measuring the most difficult part of the project. A properly fitted cover gives your hide-a-bed couch a fresh look for more years of enjoyment in your home.

Man lifts for utility trucks consist of an electric motor and a hydraulic boom with a worker’s basket. The motor rotates the base of the boom, and controls in the basket allow you to operate the boom and position the basket. Industrial mishap and use in extreme conditions can damage the motor wiring, to the point that replacement is necessary. Obtain the primary and secondary wire harnesses from the manufacturer, based on the model of the unit, to rewire a truck-mount man lift.
Some Nissan models - particularly the ZD30 Nissan patrol, have had a history of serious engine problems over the years, including piston cracks, head cracks and cracked cylinders and engine blocks. Nissan has taken steps to rectify the issues in recent years. If you have a cracked cylinder, that means that the recess in which the piston slides back and forth has become damaged, resulting in the air/fuel mixture leaking out around the piston. If it is the cylinder that is cracked, rather than the piston, you may have to replace the entire engine block.
The bed liner on a 2001 Nissan Frontier is designed to protect the bed of the truck from scratches, dents and other types of damage. Most bed liners are made out of a material that provides superior protection for the truck bed. Over time, the bed liner itself can wear out or get damaged and will need to be replaced. The bed liner can be replaced in about a half-hour.
Humbucker is the generic name for an electric guitar pickup design featuring two coils. The twin coil configuration cancels out the hum typically induced by electromagnetic currents in traditional single pickup guitars -- thus the name "humbucker." The same process also results in improved signal to noise ratio and purer sound. Humbuckers were developed in the 1930s, but achieved wider acceptance when Gibson began integrating them into its iconic Les Paul model in the Fifties. The proximity of a humbucker pickup to the guitar strings has a strong effect on the sound produced. Two adjustments raise or lower the position…
The EZ-Mount Classic is housing assembly used to quickly attach and detach a plow from the front of a vehicle. There are only three steps, only one of which requires a little heavy lifting. While the process is simple, it is easiest to complete with two people. Hooking up a vehicle to a plow with the EZ-Mount Classic assembly takes less than five minutes. The lift frame attaches to the clevis frame on the plow, the A-frame attached to the truck hooks to the lift frame, the hydraulic hoses are hooked up and the power source is plugged in.
The introduction of the powered tractor has helped farmers and gardeners make life easier for themselves. As the tractor technology increased, people began to realize that other machines could also be attached to the tractor. Plows can be attached to Wheel Horse tractors to move large amounts of snow or dirt.
A properly equipped Nissan Titan, Nissan's heavy duty pickup truck, can tow up to 9,200 pounds. A trailer of this size requires some experience to tow because the weight significantly alters the driving characteristics of the tow vehicle. Trailer sway occurs when crosswinds affect the path of the trailer in combination with driver steering wheel movements that amplifies the sway. This condition has the potential to create an accident when the trailer's movements cause the vehicle to lose control. Installing a sway bar on your Nissan truck and trailer reduces the likelihood of this occurrence.
Tractors of all sizes have two types of hitches: three-point hitches and draw bars. Rear-mount snow plows are designed to attach to one or the other. A three -point hitch is a versatile setup capable of raising and lowering a snow plow, tilting the blade right or left, and pronating and supinating the blade toward and away from the tractor. A draw bar is static with the exception of the capacity to raise and lower the blade. A three-point hitch allows for the fitting of a draw bar, but a tractor owner cannot fit a snow plow designed for a…
Whether you use golf carts for your home or on the golf course, install a dump bed to add extra storage and hauling ability. Dump beds or dump boxes are installed on the back of the golf cart to haul materials such as dirt or golf ball buckets. They are similar to the back storage units on pick-up trucks. If you do not have an original equipment manufactured dump bed, install a custom dump bed on your golf cart.
Some snow storms are too heavy for push-style snow throwers to handle and actual snow plows are needed to clear driveways and streets. Fisher Engineering manufactures portable snow plows that mount to the front of pickup trucks or sport utility vehicles. Fisher plows physically mount to the pickup truck with pins, attachment arms and push plates. However, the Fisher plow also has to be wired electrically in order for the "Fish Stik" hand-held control to work.
A van's height and size call for specific equipment and techniques you should use when washing the vehicle. For instance, you should wash hard-to-reach areas including the roof and wheel wells. Not properly cleaning these areas can lead to damage to the van's paint, which could result in rust.
Monster trucks are an awe-inspiring sight for many children, with their huge wheels and tough exteriors. If your child loves monster trucks, make him one for play or Halloween trick-or-treating. For Halloween he can dress as the monster truck driver and sit in the bed of a wagon that is decorated to look like a truck while you wheel him around collecting goodies. You will need to collect large sheets of cardboard from appliance boxes to accomplish the task. In about an afternoon you will be able to create a monster truck.
Don't get run over by giant tires when planning to decorate a monster truck room for the wild child in all of us. The theme can be accomplished by adding wall decorations, bedding and accessories for your existing furniture. Begin the project by moving out the furniture and priming all the walls. Once it dries, paint at least two coats of a favorite color base coat, such as light blue or red. Then sketch out where your furniture, such as the bed, desk and bookshelves, should be placed.
Big machines and construction equipment hold a larger-than-life fascination for many young children. Making a dump truck craft can bring the giant trucks down to a size that allows children to act out their fantasies of operating the over-sized machinery. Using recycled materials puts the project in the reach of most families as it uses only common household items that would otherwise be trash.
