Return to article: How to Care for an Akita Inu
on 11/22/2005 I own two Akitas. Socialize them well as puppies and treat them as members of the family. They are not meant to be dogs that live outside. They love people. Feed your Akita a premium diet with Nupro as a supplement. Avoid combination vaccines.
on 11/22/2005 I can make sense of both views. One said very aggressive, and the other said laid back. My Akita is very laid back, while I know his brother can't be touched by anyone other than family. It's been that way since birth - for both of them.
on 11/22/2005 I am the proud owner of a wonderful Akita. However, I learned early on that an Akita owner cannot be a weak Alpha. Be firm in your role as pack leader and give your Akita lots of affection. This combination will produce a smart and loyal friend for life!
on 11/22/2005 I have three Akitas and they are the most loving and gentle dogs I have ever known. Akitas are not vicious animals unless people make them that way. Have your Akita trained, and I guarantee it will be the best animal you have ever known!
on 11/22/2005 I have a 9-month-old lazy and slow and lovable Akita. Also a crazy, Beanie-Baby-eating year-old Husky. They are a perfect match for each other. If I had room for one more, it would be another Akita.
on 11/22/2005 My Akita lives with another pet but it's a cat. He just loves her a lot - they get along very well. Although he was there first, he got along with her the first time he met her.
on 11/22/2005 I concur completely. Our 6-year-old female is very aggresive toward other female dogs, and encounters with unfamiliar children must be supervised. On an upnote, she is incredibly loyal and loves her owners unconditionally.
on 11/22/2005 Our Akita lives with two other dogs and we have no problems. She has a happy, sunny personality and is the least aggressive of all the dogs. She is very laid back and easy to train. I would buy another Akita if I had room!
on 11/22/2005 The breeds standard and my own experience is that the breed is dog agressive. Keep in mind that they should not share a house with another pet, especially same sex. My own experience is to always have your akita on leash on walks.
