Return to article: How to Care for a Jack Russell Terrier
on 11/9/2008 I have had my Jack Russell sense last Wednesdays. She is 10 weeks old and her name is Holly. I have heard they are hunting dogs. But anyways sense i have got her she has eaten 3 roach's. Can she get sick from eating them? Cause she has only gotten her first shot which is parvo if that helps at all?
on 9/15/2008 My comment is not so much of advice to others but to ask for one tip on how to keep my daughters Jack Russell from trying to dominate my Dacshaund, he is 8 months old and full of himself, which is I know their normal behavior, but he has just started lately wanting to bite at my dogs neck, not hard and in a playful way right now, but my fear is that he will get more aggressive with his bite, we have thought about a choke collar and only sap him when he does this but I have heard that that does not work with a JR,I know their attention span is limited and just always want to play and get all the attention, but there must be some type of disapline that I can do before this gets out of hand.. can someone please give me an idea has to what might work...Thank-you Joyce
on 5/20/2008 My JRT Jackie is 3 months old, and even though she diggs through the trash, pulls on the curtans, bites at my hair & nose, attacks my other dogs & bunny, she is the love of my life, @ night time she cuddles up to me like a little baby and sleeps with me all night long, i can't ever imagine giving her away.
on 3/13/2008 Great Article, I just love my Jack Russell also, he is 5 yrs old, and is very energetic, he always wants to play socker with a basketball.
on 2/5/2008 Our Jack Russell is very active. She likes to run along beside my daughter when she rides her bike. She is very protective. We have a new baby in the house and she worries over him, even sleeps next to his crib facing the door like she is guarding him.
on 4/14/2007 I have a four year old jack russell who is a pain in the butt. but i handle it CALM DOWN! jk
on 4/8/2007 I have a three year old JRT, I love the breed and as a Vet Tech I have met many different JRT's and of all of them, Not a single one is alike. I find that most people have dogs that bite and nip due to lack of dominace, they are afraid to hurt the "little dog" But the only way to keep them from dominating them is to dominate. Not by hitting them. I highly disagree with any comment that says a JRT cannot get along with other dogs. After having my JRT for 2 years and her being the Only dog in the house We decided to get a Labrador Retriever. It took two weeks and the two have them been best friends ever since. My JRT does great around other dogs as long as I am not holding her or feel threated or afraid that she's going to attack. I find that being calm and open minded helps her situation. she has been around other jrt's all males though.. never females. I think that might be my next goal, surving the combination of to large attituded little female JRT's. I have great advice for anyone wanting to know about JRT behavioral issues.. and the answer is NO if your wonder if you're JRT will stop chasing shaddows... However if you like to call Cesar.. i'm sure he'll be able to help with that.
on 4/19/2008 I have a 4yr. old Jack Russell and a 1 year old cat. They get along wonderfully. The dog loves to try to get the cat to play with him and the cat will, but the cat gets bored with him very easily and will just jump out of reach. They even sleep together on the couch. I couldn't as for a better pair.
on 2/19/2007 My husband and I have a 3yr.old Jack Russell Terrier and he is very good with our children who are 3 1/2 and 11 months. There is only one problem that we seem to have with him and that is after we take him out to potty he will either go in the kitchen or upstairs to our room and poop on the floor. We think he is doing this for attention. Does anyone have any ideas on how to possibly fix this problem?
on 2/7/2007 i own a jack russell and I had her for only 2wks and she is a 1yrs old and she weighs 13 pds. She dont play, she only lay around and I am concerned. what should i do. I dont want to see that she has been abused but she shy away and all ways jumps when touching.
on 1/5/2007 I just have to comment to the previous comments left. I have had three Jacks, two raised from puppies & 1 rescue Jack. I also have two Beagles & two cats. ALL of my Jacks have loved my cats (my older cat doesn't always loved them!!). They get along great with the beagles, too. Two of the three love children, and when I brought a new puppy into the house (a mixed breed), my Jacks were fine with it. One of them tried to nurse the puppy even through she had never had a litter. Socialization and attention are key to having a healthy, safe Jack
on 1/1/2007 My older kids came back home to live and each had a dog. The house already had a male pit bull . They brought a female pit bull and a jack russell. The pits mated and had puppies and the jack russell killed one when they were one week old. We had them in separate rooms but the Jack Russell is quick. A couple weeks latter she got two more. They lived but one pup has crushed elbow. Then when pups running out of room Jack got another and put hole in airway. These three pups lived. The jack is outside in cage beside another jack that was given up by owner for same reason. Kills other pets. Jacks don't get along with other animals. They kill. I love the jack russell that I put out. It's waiting for my son to get new living arrANGEMENTS. tHIS ALL BROKE MY HEART FOR THE PUPS AND JACK.
on 1/15/2008 I'm getting a Jack Russell soon but I don't know where it should sleep. I know from previous experiencesthat dogs will whine and bark for their mother the first few nights away from her. I would keep it in my room to help it but I am still in school and I would be too tired for school in the morning. It could go in my parents room but they would be too tired for work in the morning.
