Return to article: How to Ease the Pain of a Sunburn
on 8/10/2006 Get a package(s) of alka seltzer tablets, fill a bowl with cold water, then put in 2-4 tablets (I use 4), let them completely dissolve. Then soak a washcloth with the dissolved mixture, squeeze out excess water back into the bowl. Apply like a cold compress to your skin. When the towel gets warm, re-soak it in the mixture left in the bowl. Repeat until the bowl is empty. What this does it applies the aspirin directly to the skin, and it stops the skins pain directly. It works wonders!
on 8/10/2006 Take a shower or bath with as hot of water as you can stand it. Apply baby oil liberally over the affected area. Rinse with hot water again. Relief will follow immediately.
on 6/11/2007 I went fishing yesterday and got a sunburn. I found out if you sit down, watch a movie, and don't do anything for a while, plus don't think about the burn; you're fine by the next day.
on 8/8/2006 After being in a water park for an entire day, I was burned so badly that lotion melted on my shoulders, despite the fact that I applied SPF50 several times. A few days later I was blistering. I went swimming in an outdoor pool the next day (probably not too smart) but it dried up all the blisters and I was almost done peeling by the next day. Maybe not too healthy, but if you need to get rid of your sunburn quickly, try it!
on 8/8/2006 It helps if you get an ice cube and rub it all over the burnt areas. It cools your skin down really fast, and it helps take the stinging and burning out.
on 7/15/2006 Put any type of vinegar in a jug with cool water and let it sit for 5-10 minutes. Then get a piece of flannel, soak it in the mix and dab onto your back. This soothes pain and takes the heat out. It works.
on 7/4/2006 My family and I have always sworn by white vinegar. 1 part vinegar to 4 parts water in a spray bottle kept in the fridge. Not only does this instantly take the heat out of the burn, but also keeps the sting away for ages! The only downside is the smell. If the smell puts you off, try aloe vera in a gel form. It's as soothings as the vinegar, but smells nicer. However, the aloe vera is expensive in comparison.
on 7/1/2006 Try to put it on right after the exposure, before it gets real painful. Have it on as much as possible, and when you go to sleep. It always helped me, and I'm easy to burn. You'll smell weird, but you'll thank yourself later. Your skin will also feel really cool.
on 6/30/2006 I recently fell asleep in the swimming pool for 30 minutes while it was cloudy, and despite the fact I was wearing factor 30, I still got burnt to a crisp. I have tried everything, aloe, after sun, Calamine lotion, etc. As a last resort I put Vaseline on the burn and it has done absolute wonders!
on 3/15/2006 I am very fair skinned and I went into a turbo tanning bed using a tanning accelerator for 18 minutes. Stupid. But I found that nothing worked for my sunburn except baby lotion. Try using the NEW Johnson & Johnson soft lotion (extra care healing lotion) after a lukewarm shower or bath. It even helps with the peeling afterward.
on 1/23/2006 Get a cup of hot water and put 2 tea bags in it then let it sit until cold. Apply the tea to the burns, it makes the pain go away, and because it's cold; it takes out the hotness in the sunburn.
on 11/22/2005 Taking a cool bath really reduces pain. If for some reason you have to take a shower instead, make sure if you have a powerful shower head not to let it directly hit the burned areas. Also, when done, lightly dab the burned area to dry it. Even though it feels a little better, trust me, do not rub it with a towel!
on 11/22/2005 When you use aloe vera, make sure it doesn't have alcohol in it. The point of using aloe vera is to soothe and get moisture back in your skin, and alcohol only dries your skin out.
on 11/22/2005 I put tea onto a washcloth and placed that on my face. Then I place an ice pack on top of the tea-covered washcloth and that soothes the pain.
on 11/22/2005 I was in Greece and burnt myself to a crisp. I couldn't sit or wear pants. A friend convinced me to apply Paul Mitchell conditioner and the burn was 85% better by the next day. I don't know if other rich conditioners work as well.
