Return to article: How to Clean Your Home for Holiday Guests
on 5/23/2008 I guess I saw more of this at http://megauploadfiles.com/
on 3/30/2006 1) Start with the shower. Take everything out of the shower and grab with a bathroom cleaner. Do the walls first, it's way easier that way.2) Next, do the tub. 3) Put everything back in the shower.4) Take your cleaner and do the sink. Scrub very well and don't forget to put things back.5) Now scrub the toilet. 6) Next is the floor. You won't like this either, but it's better if you do it. Voil! Your bathroom is complete!
on 11/22/2005 Start doing laundry first, then clean up trash. If you're in the crowd that always does it regularly (i.e. you're not a young male college student like me) it won't be a big deal. If you have a lot, it's a relief toward the end of cleaning when you don't have to still worry if your guests will find a hidden pile of clothing when they pass your room in the hall.
on 11/22/2005 If you suffer from allergies, you know how dust could make it worse! What I found to be very helpful is damp dusting. Simply moisten a clean cloth and wipe the allergens away! Instead of traditional dry dusting, which only spreads the dust around, damp dusting actually removes the dust. When you are finished, rinse the cloth in hot water to kill any bacteria or dust mites.
on 11/22/2005 I always use a laundry basket to get started on cleaning any room. You go through and pick up everything off the floor or laying around and put it in the basket. Then you carry the basket around the house and put things where they belong. It's faster than taking one thing at a time.
on 11/22/2005 A clean home smells clean and inviting. Welcome your guests with a gentle but not overwhelming fragrance from candles or potpourri.
on 11/22/2005 If your guest is staying overnight, always vacuum under his or her bed. Any dust that accumulates there can ruin the fresh feel of a room when they lie down. Also, always make the bed with hospital corners for sheets and blankets (not the comforter, quilt, or bedspread) to give the bed a nice, snug feeling and prevent a pile of blankets in the morning...It also looks a lot nicer.
on 11/22/2005 Well before guests are to come, spend a night in your guest room. How comfortable are you? Is the bed comfortable? Are the pillows? Do you have enough blankets? Is there a lamp to use for reading? A clock to check the time? Do the curtains block out the light? I also leave bath towels in the room. Lastly, does the room smell clean and fresh?
on 11/22/2005 Keep a can of air freshner readily available in the bathroom. It will make your guests more relaxed and less anxious about bathroom breaks!
on 11/22/2005 Many people have overnight guests during such a social holiday, as this is a prime travel holiday. Don't forget to keep laundered and ready bed linens put away if you don't have time to launder sheets before their arrival.
on 11/22/2005 If you own pets, the best choice to rid pet oders is an air filter, such as True Air. I use it and no one could tell I have a cat. Just make sure its new...once the filter gets dirty you can REALLLY tell how well it worked.
on 11/22/2005 Do a quick run through each room and be sure to wipe down the switch plates and door nobs with a disinfecting cleaner. These are germ breeding items. Don't forget your front door nob.
on 11/22/2005 When you are done cleaning the bathroom, sit on the toilet. It is inevitable that your guests will eventually sit on the toilet and will have time to look around and judge your cleaning skills. If you sit on the toilet after cleaning you can get a good look at what they will see and catch any spots that you may have missed!
on 11/22/2005 Avoid having you TV accumulate dust from the static by wiping it with a dryer sheet (like bounce or downey, etc.)
on 11/22/2005 Use a ladder. Place a drop cloth beneath, and use a tumbler filled with water and ammonia or alcohol. Hold the glass up to each prism and swish it in the mixture. The prism will dry and will be clean and sparkling. Much easier than taking each prism down.
