Return to article: How to Repair Scratched CDs
on 7/5/2007 I would use Tipex. It fills the gaps up perfectly if you use a small amount.
on 11/22/2005 Wash the CD with water. Don't rub the surface, just hold it in running water. Wipe it off in an "inside-out" way. If you are not successful, use anhydrous alcohol to wipe the inside out. If it still doesn't work, buy a new one. Take care of your CDs, because prevention is better than cure.
on 11/22/2005 It works great. Just put it on and wipe it off with toilet paper!
on 11/22/2005 Simply burn them I have had several cds that would not work in my car norin my home stereo I made cops of them with CDRS and they work fine.
on 11/22/2005 Use toothpaste and rub it on the scratches for 20 minutes. Then spray on CD cleaner and perfume it on till it drips. After that, put it in the freezer for 30 minutes and presto, it's like new!
on 11/22/2005 If you get some soft toilet paper and some peanut butter, all you have to do is buff out the scratches and you're done. This doesn't work on horribly scratched CD's.
on 11/22/2005 I used olive oil on my X-Box game. I let it set for 5 minutes and washed and dried it. It worked fine for 8 months and skipped one level. I used toothpaste and it works!
on 1/9/2008 The best way to remove scratches from a CD is to prevent it from happening in the first place. Here are some prevention methods you can use.You know the shiny part on the CD which the eye on the CD drive reads? Don't ever keep your Cd's with the shiny sides facing each other because if they happen to rub together, it will literally make hundreds of scratches all around the CD.If you have any type of grease on your hands, never touch the silver part of the CD because that will leave permanent finger marks on your CD if they're not wiped away immediately.Never get any scratches on the top of the CD. If that area gets scratched, the CD will be damaged permanently.Back up important Cd's just in case.Keep the dust away from your Cd's because dust will eat away on the plastic of the CD and this scratches. On the CD drive of the computer there is a little pinhole at the front where you can stick a pin in there in case the CD gets stuck and then the CD tray automatically opens. I highly recommend not doing this because when you do, that causes a lot of scratches to appear on the CD.And also never blow your breath on the CD then wipe the CD with a shirt. This is done by a lot of people to a lot of games for the PlayStation 2 and X-box. This is one of the fastest ways to damage your Cd's.When I had a scratch on my Cd's, I tried buying one the scratch removers at Circuit City (you know, the type that you put the CD on the tray and then you turn the handle around for about 20 minutes). They never work so please don't waste money on them. The only way I clean my Cd's now is with a soft paper towel and some alcohol. I've been doing this for two years now and I have never had any problems with my Cd's.
on 11/22/2005 I used some alcohol and a paper towel. I dipped the paper towel in the alcohol then began to wipe the CD in a circular motion for about five minutes. Most of the scratches were gone.
on 11/22/2005 I used Vaseline on my game disk and it hasn't done it very well. In fact, it doesn't properly load the game at the beginning the way it did before I used Vaseline. I would recommend using toothpaste (Aquafresh worked for me) or Pledge.
on 11/22/2005 Use an oil-based marker pen! Write it on the damaged part and voila! Remember not to apply too much on it. If too much is applied, the laser can't read the CD because the ink layer is too thick. Good Luck!
on 11/22/2005 If you want your CD to work, spray perfume on it. Let it sit for 1 minute, then quickly wipe it off.
on 7/16/2007 Use toothpaste. It works great on scratched CDs, and I also used it on my cell phone screen. For the phone screen, it takes a decent amount of rubbing, but after doing it for about 5-10 minutes, I notice a nice difference :-)
on 1/9/2008 If you take care of your CD's then you wouldnt have to fix scratches. Hold them by the edges and put them back in their case when your done, dont just throw them around. None of my CDs skip and I have over 400. I bought a DVD one time and it was scratched and skipped, the SkipDoctor worked great.
on 11/22/2005 Nothing will work. I tried everything on my favorite cd, vaseline, turtle wax, alcohol AND toothpaste and the cd still wont play. The only real way to get your songs going again is to buy a new one.
