Thank you for the great information. I have never done a press kit before. I just started a non-profit and dont have a lot of money so this is terrific.

From a music business perspective it's always great to have some press kits in the car. You never know when you're going to be somewhere that you would just 'die' to play. Great Article. Easy to understand and pretty much universal. Thanks

10 Press Kits won't do. Start-up companies sometimes don't realize how essential and universal a press kit can be to promoting your company and/or product. If you are participating at a trade show, giving a presentation to a perspective retailer/investor, or simply out to dinner and talking about your adventures as a new business owner, having a rock-house press kit on hand (if size permits) and at arms reach is the best way to showcase your business. Also, as stated above, make sure no matter who your target audience is, that your press kit is as professionally assembled at possible. If spending a little more dinero is what it takes to go from OK to great!...go great! Great will pay for itself in no time.

If you're a photographer, you're in an ideal position to publicize yourself. I specialize in buildings and street photography and used a high-contrast color image of a building I'd shot as the graphic on my business card. Given to a prospect or client it shows what you are capable of, and often provides a conversation ice-breaker if it's interesting. Needless to say, it must be well balanced both in color and sharpness.

Most often, the media will toss the press kit, but they will hold on to the Rolodex card. Make sure to include as much information as you can on both sides of the Rolodex card.
