Return to article: How to Cram for a Test
on 11/22/2005 I've found one of the most helpful study aids is an old test. Ask your teacher if he can put one out in the library so you can copy it, and have an idea about how it'll look & what's going to be asked. Just don't forget to study more than what's on it.
on 11/22/2005 Flash cards are the greatest way to study. Just write down key terms on one side and definitions on the other. You can go through them lots of times: while you're drying your hair, on the way to the test, etc.
on 11/22/2005 Always try to put music on while you're studying.(Beethoven, Bach, Mozart, etc.). They say that with this type of music, you can concentrate better.
on 11/22/2005 Always start with the summaries of the chapters before you read the rest of the chapter. This is a great starting point for key points throughout the text.
on 11/22/2005 If you have many tests to take in a day, don't panic. Set time aside for each one to study and take breaks. Make some tea, sit in a comfy chair and study. Before the class, if you have time, read over the most important things. You'll remember them more.
on 11/22/2005 If the teachers give notes, take them and use them to study - it's usually what's going to be on a test.
on 11/22/2005 Make yourself study sheets; making them helps you learn the stuff, then you can review them after you're done.
on 11/22/2005 Make an outline or sample test of the topics, theories, etc., you need to know for your test. Close the books and try to fill in as much of the outline from memory. Go back and review the topics that drew a blank. Repeat until you've got it!
on 11/22/2005 When studying for math or science, never just read and try to memorize the problems. Instead of trying to learn definitions, practice the problems. You'll find the difficult concepts easier to grasp if you apply them.
on 11/22/2005 Even if you are tired, try to sleep, rest or simply close your eyes for a few hours. Be sure to set an alarm so you won't overdo it.
on 11/22/2005 Study hard and use associations whenever possible. Also, get some sleep before the exam; being well-rested will help you stay focused. When you wake up, review what you studied and eat a good breakfast.
