Pretend you're someone else. Just use your imagination and be shocking. It can be fun when they call because you now have a legitimate reason to vent some feelings. They seldom call me back when I do this.

When they ask for you, say "Just a moment please I'll get them" then set the phone down and see how long they are willing to wait. They can't make other calls while they wait and that's how they earn their paycheck. They'll give up eventually and put you on the 'do not call again' list.

I am a telemarketer, and I just do my job. The best thing to do to stop calls is to listen and be nice. If you listen, we respect you more. If you are rude we get angry and put you on a call back list. If you want to stop calls, tell them they have the wrong number or that they have reached a business phone. There are dispositions for these calls that will not call back. Or, tell them the person they are trying to reach is dead. But be nice! If you have a strange name, chances are they will put you back in the system for giggles. I called a lady named Marilyn Manson, and put her back into the list for others to enjoy!

If you have a speaker phone or a cordless phone, turn on the TV and set the phone near it. Sometimes I flip it to the Español channel just to mess with them.

Leave a 5-second silence before your outgoing message on the machine. Then leave the message, "Per FCC regulations, put this number on your 'do not call' list. If we have mistaken this as a solicitation leave a message, and we will get back to you."

I always use a funy loud voice when I answer those calls. I ask them if I can have their number so I can call them at home. Sometimes I don't speak English.

Contests, especial those for drawings for cars and vacation time shares, AUTOMATICALLLY sign you up for a phone co. service, magazine subscriptions, etc. It also puts you on telemarketing lists. Read the small print.

Stuff as much unwanted junk mail in a pre-paid return envelope w/"Take my name off your mailing list" written on the envelope. Be sure to include the paper that was mailed to you w/your name & address in the envelope.

We receive many calls, even after asking nicely that they remove our number and place it on their 'Do Not Call' list. We use a whistle. We see the number on our caller ID and we know who it is. We answer with a polite hello, when they start talking we blow the whistle like there is no tomorrow. Most of the time we hear a click before we can hang up. This works good for all kinds of calls.

Oregon passed a law that allows you to tell the phone company to list your name in the phone book so that telemarketers cannot call you.
