I have 3 basset hounds, A tri-color, a lemon and the rare "Blue". My blue basset hound is just as good as the others I think its a bunch of bull that this site tells you to avoid buying a blue basset hound. Way to go ehow.com should we just kill them then? Is that what you would want?

Whining- I have 2 basset hounds both named daisy. One named Daisy duke (Double D) and the other one named daisy macy. They both whine when we leave them more then 10 minn. They sound like monkeys or a broken mouse wheel. They also whine when they are having fun. Double d Loves walks, so she will wait by the leash for her walk and just whine until we walk her. She even fells alseep by it if we are already alseep.

We have had our basset for a few months now, and He really stinks. I have tried all kinds of shampoo, and cannot find any that block the smell. Does anybody have suggestions. thank you.

We have a blue Bassett and she is the best Basset we have owned. She is very gental and great with kids. I would recommend blue bassetts to anyone. We have had tri-colored black, red and white, red and white and the tri-voloered blue, red and white. All have been great dogs.

This is completely bunk :Avoid buying a "rare blue basset." This dog (which is really gray) carries a recessive gene that predisposes it to intestinal problems, food allergies and severe skin problems. Don't buy from a person who sells blue bassets, since a responsible breeder wouldn't intentionally sell a defective dog. I am a reputable breeder of 20 yrs. I have been blessed with many bassett Hounds even a few "Blue" ones there is no difference with them than any other color bassett Hound. I also have a university degree in genetics. You should be ashamed of yourself whoever you are about trying to discredit breeders and calling them unreputable and their dog defective. You obviously don't know what you are talking about and I personally would like to see this removed from your site as it discourages people from buying a "Blue" Bassett and falsely claims them to be defective.

I am a very reputable breeder and I take great offense to your notice " Avoid buying a "rare blue basset." This dog (which is really gray) carries a recessive gene that predisposes it to intestinal problems, food allergies and severe skin problems. Don't buy from a person who sells blue bassets, since a responsible breeder wouldn't intentionally sell a defective dog." I challenge you to prove these dogs are defective as I have a university degree in Genetics and never once have I had any claim of defect in my "Blue bassetts" and I always get my veteriarian to do a full exam on them. It is unfortunate that you are publicly discouraging this color when you obviously know nothing about them. Regards,

As a proud owner of a healthy rescued blue basset, she is a wonderful asset to our family. She has no intestinal, skin, or other health problems. The only difference between her and our tri-color is the shade of her fur. The recessive gene is only responsible for color, nothing else. our basset is 8 years old and is nothing but affectionate and loving. I suggest you further research the breed.

Great info. We now own our second Basset. We had a male for 13 years, now we have had a female for 10 years. Ought to mention that the long ears need to be cleaned regularly (inside and outside). Bassets are avery sensitive dog.

I have 3 Basset Hounds and I love them. I heard they were stinky, and they really are if they are in colder places. I live in Michigan and have them outside in a special heated room, but most of the time they are playing in the snow. In order to keep themselves warm they produce a special kind of sweat that stinks, that is what makes them stinky, at least that is what the veterinarian said. The best you can do is to give them baths every other week, and wash were they sleep weekly.

I have heard that Bassets can be stinky, but I've never had that problem with my two. What I would tell someone interested in Bassets is that they are very emotionally needy. They don't like to be alone, so I would get two if you aren't home often. Mine also whine a lot. Bassets are so sweet and have so much personality that you don't mind their stubbornness.

If you are considering adopting a Basset Hound, please contact your local Basset Hound rescue for recommendations and assistance, rather than buying a puppy from a backyard breeder or pet store. You can find a rescue near you at www.dailydrool.com. Puppies, adult dogs, and seniors are all available this way. Puppies from backyard breeders and pet stores may have health and behavior problems, and may have come from a puppy mill.
