on 6/15/2008 Research the word and concept of "professionalism" and then go get a job, if you're still in high school. You should start as a dishwasher. The money isn't great, but if you TRY and if you DO WHAT YOU'RE TOLD, someone who is better than you will almost always take an interest and teach you things in a "hands-on" way that will give you a good foundation on which to begin building your career.
Then, after you've been at it for a year (and you'll be making better money by then because you worked like a professional and the hospitality industry GREATLY rewards good work)you should know wether or not this career is for you. If you have found things you're good at and you enjoy the enviornment, you should find a culinary school that is approved by the American Culinary Federation. After your internship, if you have been a professional worker - ie. clean uniform every day, SHAVE!!(that wa

on 5/9/2008 Cook what you want!
if people want to eat helthy then let them eat somewhere else!
if they have the guts to eat at a McDonald or a BK than they can eat regular food!
dont let them tell you otherwise!
if they complain about the food you make then tell them to eat somewhere else!
IF YOU COOK IN A BURGERKING OR A MCDONALDS THIS POST WAS NOT INTENDED TO OFEND

on 8/8/2006 If you are going to be cooking something at your place of employment (or your own establishment), you should try to imagine that you are at home. Don't be nervous. Take your time. With time you can accomplish anything you want to do!

on 3/23/2006 All you need is to believe in yourself, complete your goal, and really want it. Take cooking classes, see how hard it can be and if it is right for you. If you think you're ready, be prepared for lots of experience and tons of work.

on 11/22/2005 It is not all the glamor one might think. Long hours, complete head games, and not really the pay one would expect. There are food cost issues, labor issues and waste control issues. This line of work is not the Hells Kitchen stuff you see on TV. Now if you love food, and can deal with the above items, then go for it.

on 11/22/2005 In this job you will go through times where you think you'll never make it. But don't give up, just keep going and going, and you'll make it in the end.

on 11/22/2005 Always remember, if you get bashed for how bad the food or service is, do not take it personally or it will affect the way you do the job.

on 11/22/2005 You must be prepared for not only long hours, but also weekends and holidays. People in the food service industry are busiest at these times when other people want to "play."

on 11/22/2005 To become a good chef, you must have a lot of passion. It's not a question of money or social position; it's a question of love...it's a love story.
