Return to article: How to Make Unique Wrapping Paper
on 1/26/2006 Use craft paper, or leftover newspaper roll (end roll, I think they're called) in order to have a nice sized paper. Get a few small cups and in them mix bubble solution with food coloring drops. There are two ways to do this and the latter worked best for us: 1) You can insert straws into the cups and blow till bubbles overflow the cups onto the paper. Let the bubbles pop on their own and they will leave an interesting pattern. 2) You can use a bubble wand and simply blow bubbles from it directly onto the paper. This worked best for us. Also, if you place small items on the paper, they will leave a void after all the bubble solution has dried. You could cut out stars, hearts, etc., and place those on the paper before you blow the bubbles onto the paper. My six-year old did this this year and he spent hours at it, and the grandparents who received gifts from him wrapped in it saved the paper.
on 1/13/2006 Use Wite-out to edit the conversation bubbles in a comic strip. Add your own conversation between the characters and then strategically place that strip on the front of the gift.
on 1/13/2006 Purple or black bows always make the funny papers wrapping pop!
on 11/22/2005 My brother always uses the comics section of newspapers to wrap presents. It sounds obvious, but everyone in my family has always thought it was the cutest idea. Simple, efficient, creative, and cheap! This is also a cute idea for book covers, if you cover the paper with clear tape. It looks fun and original compared to brown paper bags or Book Sox.
on 11/22/2005 For a heavier paper with some "feel" to it, use rolls of wallpaper with a "green leather" look, lustrous white wallpaper, or other types which would fit the occasion. Rolls of wallpaper with flowers on them would make nice birthday wrapping paper, and you can get an entire leftover roll of wallpaper for a lot less than the cost of regular gift paper!
on 12/22/2005 Use the Sunday comics from the newspaper as wrapping paper, it's very whimsical, great for a child's gift. Also, magazine pages with interesting images makes great wrapping paper.
on 11/22/2005 For small gifts like jewelry, use a paper doily instead of wrapping paper. This looks especially delicate when the holes in the doily reveal a velvet or nice-colored box.
