on 8/2/2008 Eating garlic or taking garlic supplements really does reduce the likely bites of an evening outdoors but you may want to use parsley as a follow up to prevent bad breath. Also, avoid mucky swampy areas and places where standing water becomes stagnant, especially after dark. All that was written here is good stuff and mosquitos carry some very nasty virus' which should be avoided. Do follow the warnings about anything containing DEET, a very powerfull insect repellent which can cause serious problems for those sensative to certain chemicals. :)

on 7/22/2008 We have been using "Off" to avoid mosquito bites while mowing the lawn & attending to other landscaping chores. It works!!! Prior to using it for the first time this season, my husband was covered with bites on all exposed skin areas.

on 7/22/2008 Avon's SSS is listed, but doesn't say what to do with it.

on 7/22/2008 It's been over 100 degrees every day this week. If I wore a big hat with ear flaps, long sleeves and a long-sleeved shirt I would probably pass out.

on 7/21/2008 Great article. Now I know why we aren't bothered with the mosquitoes! I didn't know that about the lizards. Thanks so much.

on 7/21/2008 If you are unfortunate to get bitten - don't scratch (easy to, say harder to achieve) get Benadryl liquid gel - it is the best.

If you live or are in somewhere like Florida DO NOT drive away the lizards - they catch and eat mosquitoes that manage to slip into the house when the door is opened.

on 7/21/2008 And the obvious way to avoid bites is to stay indoors unless necessary.

on 7/20/2008 Just came back from Northern Ontario; black, deer fly, and mosquito nirvana (For THEM not us). We had a big bon fire on our last night, it was calm, and we were being eaten alive without the breeze. We had a pack of mosquito "coils" called pics and placed them at the perimeter of the area where 11 of us sat. One of the locals said, "If you really want to repel them fast throw one of them in the fire". So, of course, I threw two in. It took 15 minutes but sure enough, we didn't eradicate the north woods area of all bugs, but there weren't very many "bugging" us and we were all able to enjoy a fabulous evening by the lake. We'll be buying crates of those mosquito pics from here on out...so buy stock.

on 7/20/2008 I've often found that when I'm camping and having a really good time, I seem to receive less attention from the mosquitos than others do. Some of the most enjoyable outings coincidently happen to involve "drinking like a fish". So perhaps a decent blood alcohol level happens to be relative to that lack of attention! Not sure but you never know. Maybe I'm just lucky or taste terrible in general.
I do know that sweating (in the case of wearing all those protective clothes in the summer) will attract them more than not sweating. Particularly when you're exercising or working hard. That always attracts more than usual. So drink enough and you'll be okay! As far as the mosquitos go, that is!

on 7/20/2008 I just read an article in an e-mail site that stated if you put some Listerine mouthwash in a spray bottle and spray it around your ankles you won't get any bites. Too late for me to try it tonight, but the next time I'm outside after dusk, I'll be sure to try it. Hope it works! At least the mosquitos won't have bad breath!

on 7/20/2008 I just came back from camping and checking the messages. Where we went was very hot, I can not image wearing long pant and long sleeved shirt. We did insect repellents and as you know, we still got some bites. I think I will try Avon Skin-So-Soft® next time. I have heard it works good. Thank you.
