on 4/3/2006 To be good at calligraphy you should find an alphabet on the Internet with calligraphic letters and trace over it several times.
on 2/10/2006 I learned with cheap felt-tip calligraphy pens, and as I learned the correct letter shapes I moved up to better calligraphy pens (both cartridge and dip). I also used graph paper to get lines already printed to make it easier for me to get a feel for the size of each letter. Now, all I have to do it make two lines lightly in pencil. After calliging and letting the ink dry, I erase the penciled lines. Or if you have light box, you can have lines on a transparency then place the paper on top of the lined transparency and light box and use the lines that show through the paper.
on 11/22/2005 By searching on the Internet, you can see the views of other people. You can also compare the ways in which people do calligraphy.
on 11/22/2005 Most calligraphy kits have enclosed step-by-step instructions to help you get started with all strokes of each alphabet. They are enclosed along with the set of pens and ink cartridges.
on 11/22/2005 A great alternative for practicing your letter forms is to use a contractor's pencilfrom your local hardware store or lumber yard. The flat lead works much like a calligrapher's pen.Or, you can tape two #2 pencils side by side and mark out your letters in advance.
on 11/22/2005 Not only hold you pen at a 45 degree angle, you place your paper straight in front of you. NOT tilted to the left. Straight. Libaray has great books. That's where I learned.
on 11/22/2005 I like to use a fountain calligraphy pen, so that I can change ink colors and control the width of my lines by chaning nibs. Although they can be a bit costly, they are a good invesment for a serious calligrapher.
on 11/22/2005 I just wanted to tell you other calligraphers out there that it is better if you hold the pen at an 45 degree angle. This will give you way better results. If you want more tips please e-mail me at;maple240@hotmail.com thx a lot.
on 11/22/2005 At a craft store, you can generally find practice paper that has spaces with the correct slant already lined. These are REALLY helpful to help you understand spacing and letter formation. Remember to keep your paper straight; no slant.
on 11/22/2005 I noticed that when I speed up with my writing, I can make the letters clearer and better. Take your time learning the letters, but speed up when you write the letters.
