on 8/8/2006 Never keep two Syrian hamsters together. They will fight and will end up being badly injured, they could even die.

on 8/6/2007 If you get two hamsters from the same litter, then they will be fine. If you get one, and then another - clean the cage completely and then put the new hamster in first. After about an hour, put the old hamster back in. The new one will not attack because he doesn't want to get in trouble on the first day. And the old one won't attack because the new hamster's scent is already in the cage.

on 6/30/2006 Even though you get two hamsters from the same family, they sometimes will fight. I got two hamsters that were from the same family. They were really good in the same cage for two months, but then they started fighting.

on 11/22/2005 Syrian hamsters (the type typically called black bear, teddy bear, golden, or fancy) should not be introduced or housed together. They're very territorial, and they will kill each other.

on 11/22/2005 I have found that the following procedure always works. Start with a clean cage and fresh clean bedding. Lightly sprinkle vanilla extract (the real kind) through the cage and also put vanilla extract on the noses and back ends of the hamsters.

on 11/22/2005 I have two hamsters and the female got pregnant. She gave birth and the father took care of the babies, too. Remember that a male hamster will get the female pregnant again four days after she gives birth to the babies.

on 11/22/2005 I've had hamsters ever since September of 1999. I've also
found it true that they multiply rather quickly. Anyway, I have had only one big family at one time. I had a total of 17 hamsters, but I found out that, even if they are related, they try to mate.
