Return to article: How to Do a Solid Heelflip on a Skateboard
on 8/8/2006 When doing a heelflip, make sure you ollie as high as you can before flipping it, or it will stall on it's tail and spin. The faster you're going, the higher the ollie. But don't go too fast or it will be hard to flip it. Try going off a platform first to get the hang of it.
on 8/8/2006 If You are having trouble keeping your back straight and not dipping your head in try this. bend your knees but bend them out a bit so they are sticking out over the board. Next dont look down. Only to adjust your stance.
on 8/8/2006 When you do the formation of the flip, jump as high as you can and the board will spin better and you will land more easily.
on 4/4/2006 When you push your foot outward, try pushing your foot upward and outward at the same time. This will make it spin faster so you can land it easier.
on 3/12/2006 Don't lean back when kicking because you will fall off backward.
on 3/28/2006 When you heel flip, and you are only landing it half way, remember to kick the front foot hard. To do it with the back foot, put it on the edge of the heel side of the back foot.
on 2/16/2006 When you're about to ollie, drag your heel off the board, but when you do that, try to kick your foot out a bit(just imagine you're about to kick someone in the stomach) and land it. Trust me, heelflips are a lot easier to land clean than kickflips.
on 11/22/2005 I found that once I got the flip part down, I focused on the ollie then right after I did the ollie, I'd focus on the flip. After that the heelflip just comes naturally.
on 11/22/2005 While the board is flipping, bring your legs up to your chest. By the time you put your legs down the rotation of the board will be completed.
on 11/22/2005 Sometimes the board will go in front of you, so your front foot lands on the back trucks. If this happens then you need to either lift your back foot up fast or just push back with your back foot.
on 11/22/2005 1. Have your back foot on the tail of the skateboard and your front foot in the middle of the bolts.2. Push down hard as you can.3. Jump off with the foot you push down with.4. Right when you jump off, slide your front foot up to the top of the skateboard, so your weight will go to the front and the skate board will come under you.
on 11/22/2005 1.) Set your back foot on the middle-back of the tail. Set your front foot so that 3/4 of it is on the board, but so that your toes are hanging over a bit.2.) Crouch down and then spring up, doing an ollie as you normally would. Before you get to your maximum ollie height, kick your front foot out and try to spin the board using your heel, rolling your ankle.3.) Keep your front foot out, so that the board can spin under you.4.) Bring your front foot back after it's done 3/4 of the rotation - to catch the board.5.) Uncompress your legs and land the trick.Tip: Make sure to kick your front foot out to the side to let your board spin, then bring it back over the board.
on 11/22/2005 Put a lot of pressure on the left foot when you are going to jump. Drag the right foot on the front-right side, so that the board can turn.
on 11/22/2005 Your board might get caught up under you, but that's OK. You should push your front foot out at more of an angle, while your back foot is floating.
on 11/22/2005 To do a heelflip, put your front foot 1-2 inches off the right side (if you ride regular) or the left side (if you're goofy-footed). Ollie up, then flick your foot down and back up. Put your feet down for the catch. Remember to stay above the board. This helped me a lot.
