Return to article: How to Throw an Oscar Party
on 9/6/2007 Oscar Scene Setters - Place lifesize standups of celebrities throughout the room to create a star-studded event full of excitement. Hollywoodmegastore.com has a huge selection and the best prices. Celebrity standups will also make fun photo props! Have a polaroid camera at the party so that guests can take home a picture and put it in their scapbooks. Hollywoodmegastore also carries small oscars that you can use as favors and if you order a large quantity you can call and get a discount.
on 7/19/2007 Create a celebrity studded atmosphere! I put cardboard standups of my favorite celebrities as decorations, (I got them at www.hollywoodmegastore.com, good prices), and my guests loved it! They were great for taking pictures with and it created a hollywood ambiance.
on 2/10/2007 As a nine year Oscar Party vet, I've found that the number one thing to keep your guest going through the lagging ceremony (Best Sound Editing??) is to create (or find online) movie trivia games. Give your guests a line and have them guess the movie, or give them a bit of trivia, such as What number platform leads to the Hogwars Express? (Platform 9 3/4) Good luck all and have a great time!
on 2/5/2007 Prior to the party have your guests register for the Oscar pool at a site like http://www.AwardShowFantasyLeague.com. They can print their selections and bring them to the party. Also, for those that cannot attend they can also track the results online.
on 4/3/2006 I put large "Walk of Fame" stars leading up the path to our front door. Some stars had real Hollywood legends on them but I mixed them up with stars which featured our guests' names. It was nice for them to walk up to the door feeling that they were considered celebrities in our home.We also did the red carpet, paparazzi, popcorn in little boxes and little awards for various things -- best dressed, most funny, etc.
on 2/15/2006 I put Oscar winner's names on sticky labels, and each guest has one put on their back as they enter my house. To play the game, they had to assess who they were by asking other guests questions with yes or no answers. The guests raved about this, they had a great time with it!Also, I put framed pictures around the house with different stars in each one, with little sayings coming out of their mouths. You can buy those "thought bubbles" at WalMart or a Ritz camera for photos.
on 2/10/2006 We do a neighborhood party as well, but we do a mother-daughter party too. The men always gave us a hard time about watching awards shows, and they're not as interested in the fashions. It has turned into a huge success, with great memories for the girls. Now the men are getting jealous, and we have occasional male party crashers! Formal attire only, of course. The neighborhood boys act as our paparazzi, we give them disposable cameras and they really get into it !It's a great way to break up the winter doldrums.
on 11/22/2005 At the real awards shows, they give out lavish gift baskets to the attendees. I decided to go to WalMart and get 6-10 of the trial size toiletries and other hygiene items to fill in small baskets (also available at WalMart) and pass them out at the party for an added touch.
on 11/22/2005 Put a red carpet at your front door. Have a strobe light flashing to give the feeling of flashing photographers.
on 11/22/2005 The Oscars are a huge night at our house where the guests are a mix of kids and adults. For the kids, I decorate the main food table with one of the nominated animated movies. Last year I did "Finding Nemo" and this year it's either "Shrek II" or (a stretch) "Finding Neverland's" Tinkerbell. All the decorations can be found at party stores in the kid-themed isles.
on 11/22/2005 Well as we do at our annual Oscar Party In Boise Idaho, *We rent a limo to take our guests around the block*We roll out the red carpet and have someone interviewing our guests on camera as they walk in.We basically go all out Have fun with it!
on 11/22/2005 Each person can dress up as a character from a movie that is nominated. For example, this year my partner is going as Tom Hanks from Castaway and I am going as Erin Brokovich.
on 11/22/2005 If you want to have a more casual Oscar party, a fun way to do the food is as a theatre concession stand. You can serve popcorn in little sacks, nachos, hot dogs and candy.
