Return to article: How to Spot a Witch
on 11/22/2005 Witches are not Satanists, mainly because they do not believe in Satan, God, or Jesus. Read "The Spiral Dance" by Starhawk.
on 11/22/2005 Witches are everyday people. The only real difference is that we truly live as we believe. We walk what we talk. We do not condemn. We live in balance with everything. We can also laugh at ourselves.
on 2/12/2007 I love. I cry. I laugh. I sing. I dance. I smile. I yell. I go grocery shopping. I like music. I love my family. I love nature. I don?t like math. I love food. I go to college. I work. I pay bills. I make mistakes. I am human. You probably wouldn't know I was a Witch just by looking. I don't drench myself in black clothing. I don't do "black magic." I am just me. I'm that sometimes shy sweet girl who will tell you if you dropped $20 on the sidewalk. I am the one who takes care of her grandmother. I am an "oops was that a no turn on red sign?" girl. We are a part of nature, but many of us have forgotten that. Through reconnecting with nature, we become more aware of ourselves and our impact on this world. I believe that everyone has the power within to help oneself in life. I believe that we have the power to create a better world for our children by solving our inner problems and obstacles. My spirituality is my life. I have a faith. A spirituality. A religion. It is called Witchcraft. Please respect that. Blessed Be.
on 11/22/2005 Beware, witches could be found anywhere. For all you know, your best friend could be Satan's helper. Whenever you think someone is acting strange, suspect that they are a witch or warlock.
on 11/22/2005 A warlock is not a male witch, it is a Wiccan who has broken their oath. It can be a male or a female.
on 11/22/2005 I am a witch, of Wiccan faith.First, while we highly regard the triple moon (new to full [waxing], full, full to new [waning]) and may cast spells at advantageous hours at night, some are not required in the evening.Second, the broom is used to sweep negative energies or impurities from the circle or the home.Third, we do not cause famine, or disease, as the Law of Three states that if cast under negative circumstances, we shall receive what we dish out multiplied by three. Not much of an incentive, really, is it? Also the last lines in the Wiccan Rede are: "And Harm It None, Do As Ye Will" and this is a code any self-respecting witch would go by.Fourth, we are not hags (a hag is an evil demonic being being female and of elderly and decrepit appearance, and I must point out that not all demons are evil), and we do not meet in fields to commune with the Devil. We may meet to celebrate our Sabbats in good will and light hearted nature, but not to do evil things.Fifth, these are storybook stereotypes. The physical appearance of a witch does not make a difference. You may pass many witches in the street and not know it. We look like the rest of you. We're just normal people because, of course, we are just people after all. And we do not make love potions as this is seen as interfering with another's will, and this is a disrespectful act. And there is no such thing as a 'cure-all.'Sixth, while we may utter a small spell or chant under our breath now and again, this does not mean to say they are curses or hexes. We may just be asking for the rain to be held back for a little while, or to speed our bus along a bit. And the whole 'pins in dolls' thing, that's Voodoo, and it's not a mainstream Wiccan practice. Sometimes, also, little wax figures can be used to represent an afflicted person in a healing spell, so they are not always a negative thing.I hope this has opened your minds a little and put you on the correct path. Thank you for reading this. Blessed be.
on 11/22/2005 Also watch out for the man witch. The man witch is known as a "warlock" and can do evil magic just like the female witch...Maybe even more so...
on 11/22/2005 What has been said about witches is untrue and unfair. I, as a male witch myself, know what being a witch (a.k.a. wiccan) is about. People usually say wiccanism is another form of satanism, but it is anything but satanism. In order to be a wiccan, you have to think about every major action you wish to do and think of its consequences. Being a wiccan is all about being honest and using magic for the good of others. We never do things like love spells, but sometimes we do things like de-lusting spells (i.e. if you are seeing a person and are having an affair, you can use a de-lusting spell to stop the affair). But in order to do this, you must consult the other and have their consent.
on 11/22/2005 Witches are frequently found in meadows or forests, communing with nature and small animals. They also like to dance under the full moon in a frenzy of enthusiastic, wild abandon.
on 11/22/2005 These are stereotypical witches you're talking about, the kind that you see everywhere on Halloween. Real witches do NOT meet in fields, or ride brooms, or even eat babies. Witches are everyday people. They can be short, tall, fat, thin, eccentric, shy, old, young and everything in between. They use magic for the sake of receiving guidance on things or to encourage luck in their lives.
on 11/22/2005 I believe Roald Dahl had a lot to say about witches in his book, 'The Witches.' If you've never read it, do it now!
on 11/22/2005 Watch for warts on noses.
