Return to article: How to Give Your Baby a Latin Name
on 10/7/2008 Interesting article. Wonder if the babies live up to their names?? *S*
on 3/7/2006 Latin is not the root of English. This is a common misconception. Latin is a Romance language, whilst English is East Germanic. They both stem from a common ancestor known as Proto-Indo-European.
on 11/22/2005 Herman is not a Latin name, it's German. For nobility (aristocratic class) derive a name from "Patrician" i.e. Patrick. Alternatively derive from "nobilis" which just gets you back to the English word "Noble"
on 11/22/2005 Charles Lutwidge Dodgson, more famously known as Lewis Carroll, selected his pen name using the same ingenuity as his greatest work, "Alice In Wonderland." By reverting his name Charles Lutwidge to Latin (Carolus Ludovicus) then, reversing them and putting it back into English, he came up with Lewis Carroll. Try it yourself and see if you like it!
