on 1/7/2007 Crossover - It looks extremely simple, but some defenders can be pretty tough to fight around. A tip to the crossover is to try to bring the ball upcourt in your weak hand, this will have the defender thinking you are for say a lefty when you are a righty. Then when you get to your defender quickly crossover to your dominant hand, this will let you have more control over the ball as you drive to the basket.

on 8/8/2006 This dazzling move requires much practice. Bounce the ball one way, then go the other way, then bounce the ball back that way, then turn around and go the other way, after this go back the other way while bouncing the ball.

on 6/30/2006 If you are a good shooter, this move won't fail. Start at the top of the key dribbling the ball with your dominant hand. If you are right handed drive right two steps beginning with your right foot. On the second step when you are on your left foot, cross the ball through your legs to your left hand. When the ball is moving to your left hand use your right leg to propel back landing on your left leg. Bring your right leg back also and look up toward the basket and bring your hands up like you are going to shoot (but don't actually touch the ball with both hands). When your defender jumps toward you, you can either put the ball through his legs, go around him or let him land and do it again. This move is very effective, but takes time to perfect.

on 1/15/2008 Here's the simplest and most effective way to cross over:

Drive in one direction and mean it, making sure to keep your body between the defender and the ball.

Why be sincere about driving in one direction? Because the best way to sell a fake is to actually believe in what you're doing. In other words, if your defender follows you on the drive, it should be because you've honestly convinced him (and yourself) that you are committing to that direction. That way, when you suddenly jump ship and bust out your cross-over, it'll be all the more unexpected -- and all the more devastating.

If he doesn't follow you on the one-directional drive (or if he follows only half-heartedly), that's even better -- you can just drive straight through without resorting to a cross-over since it's what you meant to do from the start.

Now if he does follow you on the drive, here is how you can cross him over:

Take one last step with your outer leg, the one on the same side as your dribbling hand and farther from the defender. You should shift your weight forward onto this leg as if you are still continuing in your old direction, but as soon as the leg plants itself, you should use it to push your body in the new direction, away from the old.

As your body swings from its old direction to its new one, you should automatically want to switch the ball to your other hand. Just be sure as you're riding the momentum to switch fast and keep the ball low. At the same time, re-angle your body so that it is again positioned between the defender and the ball.

Having effectively switched directions with both the ball and your body, you can now push off with your other leg in the new direction. Usually, you'll be a step ahead of your defender, so you can then use the leg nearest him to cut off his footwork, lean your body into his to block his access to the ball, and again drive toward the basket.

on 3/3/2006 Drive to the basket with either hand then quickly cross to the opposite side and take the lane. It's really effective when used right.

on 1/24/2006 Start by facing the defender face-to-face. Do a few dribbles with speed to confuse the defender. Make sure the ball comes back to your strong hand. With the ball in your strong hand, do a spin move off your strong. Spin enough so that the back of your head is face to face with the defender. Once you have come to the end of your spin, release or drop the ball, this will cause the defender to think that you have lost control of the ball. The defender will dash in for the steal. When he does, quickly step over with your weak foot (your left hand should now be closer to the ball). Quickly grab the ball with your left hand and dribble it to your right hand (strong hand). Drive to the hoop.

on 12/30/2005 Approach your opponent with speed. Fake to the right, while moving the ball and your arm to the left side behind your back. Let the ball bounce, and while your opponent goes for the ball, quickly bounce it with your left hand under your legs to the right hand, and drive it in for a lay up.

on 11/22/2005 Get about two feet of space between your defender. Have the ball at your right hand, send your arm and the ball to the left side, behind the back. Let the ball bounce behind your back, do a full turn. Then the defender will go for the ball, by this time you will grab the ball and spin over his back. Then do a layup or go back and he will go looking for you and you will be where you started from.

on 11/22/2005 Go one way, then step with your foot on the ball side as hard as you can, when the person moves; you change direction.

on 11/22/2005 Have the ball in your left hand, then as the defender comes toward you, twist off of him, going right. And then bounce it to your right and do a little jerk. The defender will be dumbfounded.
