on 11/22/2005 Just remember A B C. Avoid, Block and Counter (counter attack). In Karate the block is secondary. The first thing to do is get out of the way. That can also mean don't go where there could be trouble.

on 11/22/2005 If you are going to a place you don't think will be safe, go with a group and stay out of the dark.

on 11/22/2005 Look him in the eye, be calm, don't smile, act naturally, and stand still. Tell him that you don't want to fight. If he's a guy trying to show he's courageous for his friends, he'll act violent. Stand up to him. Stand still, look him in the eye and say nothing. He will say that he forgives you, and he will go away. His fear will increase if you look him in the eye and say nothing. He will look courageous, but he will fear you more. Some nights he won't sleep thinking about it. He will think that you would have crushed him in fight.

I'm have been practicing Qwan-Ki-Do for a couple of years, and it has worked for me.

on 11/22/2005 If you know a situation is going to end in violence and you have no way of preventing the confrontation, I suggest that you should be the one to strike first. A surprise attack will open a window for you to either run away or ensure that the aggressor is no longer a threat.
