on 6/30/2006 My family qualified for subsidized housing and our wait was only 5 months. In that five months we actually found a nice apartment that was only a little more and ended up not moving into the subsidized apartments.

My tip: Just keep trying. Make sure you have all the paperwork you need the first time and it will lessen your wait time.

on 3/15/2006 Expect to be put on a waiting list unless you fall under a preferential category. Preference is given to people who are homeless or living in substandard housing, are paying more than 50 percent of their income in rent, or have been involuntarily displaced. First of all, I am ready to go homeless and I pay more then 50 percent of my income in rent and utilities. I was told my waiting period for section 8 is anywhere from 9 to 15 years. Don't get your hopes up.

on 11/22/2005 If you live in Northeast Oklahoma, around the Miami Oklahoma area, check out Commerce Housing Authority. They really helped me! They have a great website: Www.CommerceHousingAuthority.Com
