on 10/3/2008 Tekaquila - You are absolutely right. Avoid using Pine or Cedar bedding as these woods can release pharamones that are very very harmful to small pet's respiratory system. Opt for bedding made from receycled paper. (Personally I use Carefresh - it comes in cute colours, pink, blue, white and natural, it absorbs odors and is soft and fun to dig into for your little one) Another bedding to avoid is cotton matting...the cotton fibres can tangle around little paws and if ingested - could be fatal. Stick to Carefresh (or similar product) and toss in some toilet paper/unscented undyed tissue paper and your ham-ham will love tearing it up and making a nice soft bed! :o) Good Luck!

on 9/29/2008 I am a little concerned that this article is recommending pine shavings for bedding material. According to the Humane Society's website, pine shavings are toxic to hamsters. I don't know which is right, but I would err on the side of caution and use recycled paper products instead.

on 6/17/2008 Yes. I have dwarf hammies and they can be in the same cage together if you do it at a young age or they are from the same litter.

on 3/8/2007 bedding-you should use nothing!! if you even have anything at the bottom of you hamsters cage, STOP!!!!. i found it works best (and its easier to clean the cage) if you just have nothing at the bottom of a hamster cage! i promis, take my advice its worth it. my first hamster had bedding, it live 2 years. my second hamster had no bedding, it liked 6 years! i hope this helped you!
