on 11/17/2007 What a great place. My father in-law's computer refused to go past the Windows loading screen. It is a Dell but when I called them they said that since it had been a gift to him his name wasn't listed and terminated the session.I reformatting using your instructions and he has his computer back. Thanks I know I will be using your site with my 3 Dell computers.

on 11/17/2007 Open> My computer> Right click your drive> choose format.
End of story.

on 11/15/2007 OK as far as it goes. But it did seem to provoke Microsoft demanding "reactivation" of XP. This is an annoying process and I would have liked to have been warned that this might be a consequence of changing an old disk drive from FAT32 to NTFS.

on 10/31/2007 I now have Unallocated 61.90 gb
Backup D 4.41 GB NTFS
System C 10 GB NTFS
My problem is that I dont' have enough space for the system. I would like to merge it with the rest , i.e. 61.90 GB and just keep 4.41 gb as a partition.

I can't seem to merge or delte the partitions except the one I created, 4.41 gb.

Any suggestions?

on 10/28/2007 This was a very helpful article, however, I experienced one additional step that was not covered, and that was the End License User Agreement. This screes came up and there were no easily identifiable directions on how to get past that screen. I was fortunate to hit the correct F key by chance, which the remaining directions were correct. on 4/19/2008 For those who have a greyed out New Partition problem, my solution was to right-click on the disc number selection, where it said "not initialized", clicked on "initialize", which changed the "not" to "online", then was able to create a new partition. Good luck.

on 9/27/2007 Hi. I have an old pentium 3 that I wish to reformat. When I follow your instructions after bringing up computer management then right clicking on the drive the delete partition is not hight lighted. How do I get that to high light. The computer is an original windows 98 with a non genuine windows xp pro up grade. I have tried every thing I now including puting the disk back in but will not even uninstall windows xp. Cheers Ray
