I have been trying to get a clear steer of the net for two days now. Excellent instructions, thank you. I have finnaly cracked it.
I was updating an older machine with a new 500gb pata drive. Had to update the bios driver first and this article unlocked the next step which was to format and partition the drive.

I had to do a complete reformat of my hard drive (reinstall Windows XP) due to some major performance issues I'd been having for quite some time. I performed all the tasks above and I'm still having problems. I tried to set a new network connection and the wizard can't find the hardware, and I can't change my screen resolution since the only option I'm given is Medium (16 bit). My problems got worse!! HELP!!

can any one help me how to take back up of the files. One day I installed the avast anti-virus in my system and scanned the system. then suddenly one reminder saying that virus found in operating system. suddenly The power gone then i am forced to shut down my system using the btn found on CPU. when power came when i 'switched on' the systemits not opening and showing only curser blinking..
Then when I had kept formating CD in drive and had to re-install the windows XP but after some steps the scrren is showing a message telling that windows cannot found any hard drives installed in ur system. press F3 to Quit.
Help me to solve this problem...

this page clearly did EXACTLY what I needed and accurately described what to expect! Microsoft's help sucks ASS and was telling me about FAT32 (he-he). Once again, I'm busy fixing my Windows machine when I'd rather be playing w/ my Ubuntu. thx guys >dirk
