on 3/22/2007 As a copy editor, I would like to add that it helps tremendously to get a Bachelor of Arts degree in journalism at a university that has a program dedicated to this major and classes taught by working professionals. Most employers ask that you have a B.A. and will give you a chance, even if you don't have experience. Paid or unpaid internships completed before graduating will provide working experience and having the latest copies of the Chicago Manual of Style and the AP Style Book are absolutely essential.

on 11/22/2005 Don't rule out copyediting if you're also a writer. The schedule can be more flexible than most white-collar jobs, the pay is better than most flexible-hours jobs, and you'll fine-tune your awareness of the language.
