on 11/22/2005 First aid is great! However, if you're healthy, have no cell phone or GPS, and you're stuck out yonder with no clear sky, sun, or you're a novice - then a compass is a must have! Just make sure not to hold it next to anything magnetic or metal, such as your belt, as it could alter the direction!

on 11/22/2005 Don't ever pick up a snake unless you know for sure that it's nonpoisonous. If you are not sure what species it is, enjoy it from a distance.

on 11/22/2005 Add an ACE-type bandage to your kit for sprains or snake bite first aid. If you have room and don't mind a little extra weight, also add an instant cold pack.
