We have had AON and AHS on two different properties. Had only minor problems with the property under AON, and had no problems or complaints. With AHS on our other property, we had the compressor fail on the outside unit for our heat pump. They couldn't easily repair, and went with a replacement. They spec'ed us the cheapest, least efficient heat pump that could legally be sold at time... 10 SEER. I wanted the option to add some $$ to the purchase of the unit to get a better external unit... or one best matched to our interior unit..no way. They could give me the cash equivalent, which was less than 1/2 my retail cost for the same 10 SEER unit. Ended up having that cheap aweful thing stuck onto my townhouse...not too happy. True, AHS shielded us from the full cost of the replacement, but that replacement was nowhere near what I myself would have picked. -

I just moved into a home and got a home warranty plan through UA Durr. My Jennair stove-top just burned-up (literally). It took days to reach UA Durr on the phone. In the mean-time I replaced the unit with a like-unit and finally contacted the realtor, who recommended UA Durr, and he got me in touch with a represenative with the company. UA Durr has a lot of fine print and obviously a book of excuses. The end result is they wanted to settle for $129 for what cost me over $900 in just material to replace. They quote "we only replace to builder's grade quality". I don't know where they get their cost numbers, but it doesn't help the homeowner at all. I recommend taking the money you spend on a home warranty plan and take the kids to an amusement park. It won't get your appliances replaced, but neither will a policy from UA Dur. -

I have used AHS and had alot better service than after I switched to National Home protection. I have had an A/C problem recently, I called the claims center and it was closed. I spoke with an operator who could not find my account info. So I authorized the repair and now Im continueing to fight for reimbursement. I will post the resolution as soon as I get one. -

I've had coverage with Old Republic for some time now. However, I will not renew with them, because most of their contractors do not work on the weekends. It simply doesn't make financial sense that I give up a $300 payday for repair work. I might as well pay the full rate and enjoy my weekend at home. -

Our home came with AHS warranty and for the first year they were great with good service for $45/a visit. We renewed the insurance and for the past 2 years we have had problems with the AC guys that they hire, particularly when the problem is not fixed and the AC company doesn't work weekends. That's an issue when it is the middle of the summer here in Texas. I don't recommend AHS anymore. They were once good, but now they are not. -

While buying a new warranty, compare the annual cost, deductible (per service visit fee), and coverage start date. Most of the warranties start on the day you make payment, but some (like AON) want you to wait 30 days before coverage starts. AON claims that it sells service only at the time of home sale/purchase. Others (like AHS and HWA) can be purchased at any time. Most of the coverages are the same, with customer service being the main difference. Many times, the service person is the same (working for many companies). Note that the service persons HATE to replace parts, because they make more money for each service call. -

I have Old Republic on all of my rentals. It is the best thing. They couldnt find a fan motor because the unit was too old so I received a brand new unit installed for $45 and and I even get to write the warranty off on my taxes. -

Be careful! They just replaced a water heater yesterday. I paid $500 for disposal of the old one and other charges that AHS said weren't covered. But I found that Home Depot would have installed same new water heater for less than $500 including disposal. -

We are unhappy with AHS. The people they sent out to repair our AC units were unprofessional. On top of that, we were dinged $220.00 for a Freon recovery fee. I've never heard of this, and I am looking for a new home warranty company that doesn't charge these fees.
