on 7/22/2008 I've tried giving my kids soy nuggets and they haaaated it. LOL But they'll drink my soy milk with no problems. I'd like to try the extra-firm soy that will add protein and all that good stuff, but don't want to waste full meals because they wind up haaaating it LOL

on 7/22/2008 > Substitute tofu for scrambled eggs.

That's OK with me. Real men eat tofu (but we call it Bean Curd).

But I think people are being set up for disappointment when you promise tofu as a "substitute." Instead, it's actually completely different. That's the reality.

A better way to sell tofu is to describe its high protein, high calcium, low carb, and low fat content. Compare it to meat or cheese, and soy is the unequivocal wiener. The lesson is that it's so darned healthy, the unfamiliar, slightly-soy taste is worth getting used to. It’s not a replacement for anything -- it’s just a new addition to improve the average quality of your diet.

on 7/22/2008 "Almost no taste" might be true if you're used to soy, but if you're not, it's a strong-enough taste to be alien. People should realize it's a new taste but it’s OK, it's healthier than what they usually eat, and if it's too strong, feel free to dilute it with the other ingredients -- a little soy was better than none at all. After a few meals, you'll be soying with the best of them, adding massive quantities without fear.

on 7/20/2008 Great ideas. I'm cleaning up my diet. Need to get healthier and lose weight. So, the timing for your article is perfect.

I've eaten tofu in the past and I do recall it works great w/ pretty much everything because it absorbs the flavors of whatever it's cooked in. I remember I like the texture of it, too. (The firm tofu.) It adds somethin' a bit substantial to a recipe as meat does so you don't feel so much there's somethin' missing when meat is omitted from a recipe.

Thanx for the reminder! Now I'm reminded of where I can get a good source of protein in place of meat products.

Kudos!

on 7/18/2008 I have had tofu in the past, mostly with Asian food. I thought it tasted like whatever it was made with and not much flavor of it's own. I'd give it a five neither liking or disliking tofu.

on 7/18/2008 Actually tofu is considered a junk food. The tofu we buy in stores is nothing like the unprocessed fermented soy they traditionally ate in Asian countries.

In fact, tofu has little nutritional value and is highly processed. Sorry folks. Watch Dr. Mercola, a highly respected natural health physician, explain the real story behind the food industry pushing cheap soy products on this youtube video.

on 7/18/2008 Tofu is very healthy. I often use it as a meat substitute in my vegetarian dishes.Grilled or fried it works best in salads, pastas, sandwiches and curries.

on 7/18/2008 At one time, I was aware of this product, but have since forgotten. The general public needs reminding every now and again. By the way, the grill shot looks delicious.

on 7/18/2008 I love tofu. As a person who doesn’t eat meat, I incorporate tofu into my meals and it’s great. I use tofu as meat substitutes.

Also, I like to use it as a dessert too. Making a nice mousse is awesome. I take a package of tofu, add some Splenda and cocoa to taste, and with a mixer or blender, mix it all together. Or, I use just the tofu and the Splenda, blend it together, and that makes for a nice frosting.

Tofu is really good and versatile.
