on 11/22/2005 Do a search for milk jug skeleton. Basically, you take 1 gallon plastic milk (or water) jugs cut them out into bone shapes, and assemble into a life-size skeleton. Since it's plastic it's great for outdoor weather, but my kids love to hang them in the foyer. They are fun to make too.
on 11/22/2005 There are so many party stores out there for Halloween, but if you don't find what you are looking for, or can't afford what you want, it is easy to make Halloween decorations by hand. Crumple up black paper and attach it to pipe cleaners and hang them with string for spiders. There are endless possibilities!
on 11/22/2005 I went to the Dollar store and bought 3 plastic dolls. I then disassembled them and put the parts in my tropical punch. Everyone loved it.
on 11/22/2005 Collect dead flowers, leaves, etc. Arrange them however you want. Use black and orange ribbon. Tie them around the centerpiece. Stick them in a vase. Voilà! You have an autumn centerpiece.
on 11/22/2005 Use green or orange Christmas lights. Stick them on the edge of the table. Buy an inexpensive white table cloth. Cut the tablecloth on the edges. Use a large fan under the table. Turn on the lights and the fan and you have an eerie refreshment table!
on 11/22/2005 Wash out a latex glove. Fill it with a drink of your choice. Stick a straw in the glove. Tie it with a rubber band tightly. This way you can put your drinks down anywhere and they won't spill!
on 11/22/2005 Pick up some inexpensive sheets of foam at a craft store, and use a kitchen knife to cut out the shape of gravestones. "Carve" designs and sayings into them, then spray paint them gray with a little black inside the carved parts. They look cute propped up in a corner with some dim lighting.
on 11/22/2005 There are many groups that release good atmospheric music. "Midnight Syndicate" is one of the best. I have seen their music used to very good effect!
on 11/22/2005 I always play the Tracata and Fruge in D Minor. It's kind of spooky music.
on 11/22/2005 Use bubble wrap on the floor for sound effects; use raw rice & broken, uncooked spaghetti for ground-up bones; large marbles in runny gelatin for eyes; half-filled water balloons in a bowl of soapy water for brains. Have fun, & keep paper towels on hand!
on 11/22/2005 Boil some spaghetti noodles and peel some grapes. Put them in a opaque bucket with a cloth over it and when a trick or treater comes, tell them to get some candy. After they find out it isn't candy, tell them they're feeling guts and eyeballs!
on 11/22/2005 I have seen dry ice used at Halloween parties and it works very well. It may be a safer alternative to the smoker, which is plugged in.
on 11/22/2005 Use dry ice in a bowl of cold water for the effect of fog. You could use this indoors or outside.
on 11/22/2005 I have some plastic eyeballs that I always put in the candy bowl. I let the kids reach in and get a handful of candy and hope they get a scare from the eyeballs.
