on 7/30/2008 "Tire chains aren't necessary for 4x4s and sport utility vehicles..." Maybe to make them go, no they may not require a traction device. But, in ice and snow, a 4 wheel drive doesn't help you stop any better than a 2 wheel drive vehicle. Watch the news after the next snow storm, most of the vehicles in the ditch are over-confident (zealous?) SUV drivers.
