on 7/9/2006 To get a fast flat, without having to use a continental grip, use a full western. This allows you to use the full power of your arm. Throw the ball so it goes right in front of you and make it lower to make the ball bounce lower at contact with the ground. Smack the ball aggressively, as though you are hitting a smash. Work on snapping your wrist, and the ball will go in with power from your wrist and arms.

on 6/30/2006 When making contact with the ball in the air, try to hit the ball as high up as possible, to make it easier for yourself.
