Return to article: How to Join a Tennis League
on 9/24/2008 Actually, you no longer have to be rated by a pro to play USTA league tennis. There is a self-rating system (for a NTRP rating) with specific questions designed to help you self rate. It depends on how much you have played and where you have played, i.e. high school, college, or just recreational. You are eligible to self rate if you have never played on a team or have not played for three years. The computer then gives you a minimum rating. You can then either agree with the rating or appeal right then by clicking on the "appeal" button. It's that easy. I have been a captain for over 15 years, and it has been fantastic. I have made lots of friends, visited several new clubs, and strengthened the friendships with my team members!
on 12/22/2007 Another great league and place to find players is http://TennisTour.Org The automated match scheduler and drop in tennis make this one of the best ways to find new players.
on 6/8/2007 This article should mention that the USTA tests to determine your rating are usually done by a local tennis pro at an area club. And, it's a lifelong sport...so get started! My fondest memories of my youth are playing doubles with my parents and sister. Terrific family sport!
on 12/7/2006 Checkout http://tennis-league.com which is a totally free league fully administered on the Internet. You can join without being required to play, you can just browse players in your area, rate players, find courts, events, news, and more.
