what size needles did you use for the top flap? I used a size 1, but I'm thinking it is too small now that I've made the top flap. Thanks.

I am a beginning knitter, but am having trouble with step 4. I have been alternating knitting and knitting with an increase for 8 rows, so this generates a garter stitch. Then you say to work in stst. I am getting a distinct pattern difference in my work where your pic looks like a smooth and flat surface.

Thanks for notifying me of my error. I forgot to write "continue this increase until you have 27 sts" before knitting 10 rows in stst. I've fixed that so it should be correct now. I also added the gauge, 6sts=1inch. You may need smaller needles if the sole seems too big. Also, this pattern was written for my 11-month old baby who has her mom's big feet! Until I have a smaller baby to measure, use smaller needles if you need a tighter gauge. Thanks again!

very cute! I just started this pattern and think there is an error in step 2--I think it should read "you should have 17 stitches..." rather than 27 stitches. Also, the sole seems too big; is it really 40 rows? thanks!

ah, yes! The crochet-vs-knitting debate :) If you are a beginning knitter, you'll want to have several other projects under your belt (scarves, hats, mittens, maybe even a sweater, etc.) before you attempt a pair of baby shoes. That's why I rated it as moderately challenging. You sure could crochet a pair though! Check back in a few days for my "super easy baby legwarmer" pattern!

I am just beginning to learn how to knit, and the idea of shoe is a little overwhelming. Do you think you could do the other parts with crochet stitches?

This article is interesting... I have always bought robeez for all three of my boys they are expensive but i love them. I have wanted to learn how to start making things for the boys this would be a neat project. Good article for us moms.

on 2/19/2009 I really like the idea of using puff paint to make the shoes slip-proof. That should also work well for older members of the family!
