Great tips! I find myself in this situation a lot and I've learnred how to observe first and then try to join in conversations. Observing puts me at ease and makes it easier to get a feel for how people will receive me.

I find it impossible to start a conversation with a complete stranger. Luckily for me, I guess I look approachable because people always walk over and talk to me. This is a great article to help those of us who need to be a little more outgoing.

Breaking the ice can be very intimidating for some. Commenting about anything in a befitting manner will break the ice. You don't even have to say hello first! Good article.
