on 1/9/2009 Great tips! I find myself in this situation a lot and I've learnred how to observe first and then try to join in conversations. Observing puts me at ease and makes it easier to get a feel for how people will receive me.

on 12/25/2008 I find it impossible to start a conversation with a complete stranger. Luckily for me, I guess I look approachable because people always walk over and talk to me. This is a great article to help those of us who need to be a little more outgoing.
