Go to a naturopath. He/she can tell you the best foods to eat and to avoid, like breads, pastas and sugars. I lost weight and improved my health significantly - no more colds or other ailments. Also, walking is such a great exercise and it's easy!!

I diet - watch what I eat - Monday through Thursday only. On the weekends, I eat whatever I want. I have found that this satisfies me and I usually don't eat as much as I thought I would. I still exercise every day though (Tae-Bo).

Wait for your stomach to truly growl before you eat, even if it means waiting a day! You'll be surprised at how often you're only wanting to eat, not needing to eat. Then, when you eat, stop when you are comfortably full, not stuffed! You'll lose!

Start weight training. Muscle burns calories 20 times faster than fat does. I lost my first 30 lbs. by weight training. I didn't even change my diet at first - until I realized both proper nutrition and exercise are imperative for good health.

When I just don't feel like working out, I put on my tennis shoes and tell myself I'm just going to exercise a little. Just getting started will usually make me finish my normal routine.

Instead of putting high-fat sauces on your food, try pureeing some steamed veggies and spices. Have curried carrot puree over your broccoli, or rosemary broccoli puree over your potatoes. It tastes fantastic and adds vitamins and fiber. So experiment!

There are books that tell how different blood types respond to different foods. We don't all respond the same way. Be careful of those low-fat foods. They substitute carbs for fat to add flavor. Water and exercise are the two things that remain important!

It's okay to have the occasional naughty snack. I find if I tell myself I can't have it, I want it even more and tend to binge. Have it in moderation or choose a nonfat alternative. When I crave chocolate, I go for fat-free Jello pudding.

Keep a log of all you consume during the day. When grocery shopping, compare the calorie count on brand names vs. non-brand names. Buy the one with the fewest calories in it.

Sure, you need eight glasses a day, but if you make it cold water, you'll burn up to 100 extra calories daily as your body heats the water to 98.6 degrees F. Just add ice!

Find a magazine photo of someone with a figure that you would like to have, clip it, and stick it on the 'fridge so that it is staring at you each time you think about opening the door. Instant will-power!

After I turned 30, it became impossible to lose weight without exercise. This doesn't have to be anything fancy in a gym. I walk - early in the morning, every day; no excuses. Over time, the weight goes if I'm also eating healthy foods.

You can burn it off and keep it off when you feel hungry. Just drink a full glass of water. It fills you up a lot, so then eat something light. Drinking about five or six glasses a day helps other things, too. Good luck and be happy with yourself.

on 11/22/2005 The weight will not come off if you eat unlimited carbs - even if the fat content is low.
