Return to article: How to Wear Cologne the Right Way
on 1/19/2006 I love just the right amount of cologne on my man. I say keep it away from your clothes altogether. It just gets stale and smells too much like the alcohol in it. Apply it to your neck and chest area after your shower and before you get dressed. And turn the fan on in the bathroom when you do it, out of respect for your girlfriend/wife. She loves your cologne on you, not in the air. I also agree that 3 sprays is too many. I'd say one or two at the most. Apply the cologne long before you go into public, especially tight places like buses or the subway. The strong scent of too many perfumes and colognes is just too much to handle. And please, don't trust the smell of the cologne fresh out of the bottle. Apply some on your skin and leave it there for at least 20 minutes and ask at least one other person what they think before making a purchase.
on 11/22/2005 As a wife, mother of sons, and a woman very sensitive to smell, I have the following good advice to offer: Three sprays is often way too much cologne for a man to apply. Many men today, especially men in their 20's, have a habit of over spraying and they can't tell how much they stink. They think women love it when they smell the cologne instead of their natural body! Wrong! Many women are highly sensitive or allergic to certain odors, including colognes and perfumes. They can't tolerate it when someone is walking in a cloud of it. The proper way to apply any fragrance in a spray container is to spray it directly in front of your neck and chest area, and walk into the spray. You get a nice hint of it, instead of a dowsing. Do not apply sprays directly on your skin unless it is from an arm's distance away, otherwise you will reek from cologne, and that's not sexy in many women's opinions. With all the other odors people wear (deodorants, soaps, aftershave) it can be overwhelming and offensive. Please be considerate of those who will smell you and make sure what you choose mixes well with your own body chemistry.
on 11/22/2005 Spraying cologne on the body parts that create the most heat is sure to make you smell great! Be sure to spray your neck, wrists, and armpits. It sounds odd, but you'll smell wonderful.
on 11/22/2005 If you use several scents, be cautious when applying cologne on your clothes. Wearing several scents at once will only give out a strong, headache-causing stench! Also, beware of colognes that stain clothes!
on 11/22/2005 Some colognes will come withbody washes or powders. I findusing both in combinationwith cologne gives a more mellow scent. Not too strong, but strong enough for others who are nearby to smell -- but not overpowering to someone next to you.
