on 4/11/2007 As someome who used to have serious trouble waking up, I want to share the number 1 method that help me get out of bed in the morning...
Decide to wake up. Before you go to bed, plan what you're going to do when you wake up, and "see" yourself doing it.

on 8/8/2006 I am not a morning person. I have to set my alarm for 1 hour before I need to be up. I hit snooze for this hour, allowing me to wake up slowly and feel more awake and happier once it's time to get moving.

on 8/8/2006 1. Avoid caffeine after 4 pm (half life of caffeine is 4-6 hours).
2. Drink a cup of warm milk or hot chocolate (preferably sugarless).
3. Take a warm shower before going to bed.
4. Do not watch an action movie before bed.

on 7/18/2006 I usually drink some herbal teas. Some of my favorites are peppermint, chamomile, St. Johns wort, rosemary and green tea. Just make sure they are all non-caffeine of course. If that doesn't work, try a medical prescription for marijuana. Be sure to find a strain that you really enjoy (mellow, relaxing high). Ride a bicycle often, that helps relax naturally.

on 3/2/2006 In the morning, when you first got your alarm clock, you jumped out of bed all ready for the day. Now you have had the same alarm for a month and you can't even hear it.
Do not use cell phones as alarms!!
At night before you go to bed, watch TV for half an hour.
Before you go into bed, wet your face and dry.
Before you go to bed get really cold.
Before you go to bed don't put anything in your mouth but milk or orange juice.

on 1/13/2006 I have a great alarm clock that hooks up with my lamp. It gradually turns up the light in the room, coming to full brightness after 30 minutes. I have found that it is the single most useful thing to wake up refreshed.

on 11/22/2005 There is an alarm clock watch that helps you wake up revived called the Sleeptracker. It is slightly expensive and is a watch that you have to wear when you sleep so it may not be comfortable for everyone. However the reviews on the product (that I have seen so far) have been very positive and they say it does exactly what it advertises.

on 11/22/2005 Refrain from using any type of computer two hours before you go to sleep. Some people are overly stimulated by computer energy and cannot go to sleep after using one for more than half an hour.

on 11/22/2005 Look at your evening schedule and see if there's anything that's overly emotional or stressful that's going on before you go to sleep. If it's within your control, try to eliminate that thing (for example, the evening news or heavy discussions.)

on 11/22/2005 Set your television to turn on to a favorite channel. It makes you open your eyes, so you don't go back to sleep. Keep the remote control out of your arm's reach. Beware, a television doesn't have a backup battery (in case the power goes out). A second choice would be to wake up to a favorite music CD, but I would be afraid this would ruin my desire to ever listen to it again.

on 11/22/2005 As a hypnotist who works with people with sleep difficulty, one very useful little affirmation is: frequently repeating the suggestion to ones self - DEEP RESTFUL SLEEP, I ENJOY DEEP RESTFUL SLEEP. Do this several times a day for 2 to 3 weeks

on 11/22/2005 Don't look at the clock if you wake up in the middle of the night or if you can't fall asleep. It will make you more stressed if you know that you only have a few hours before your alarm goes off....and that stress will keep you up longer!

on 11/22/2005 If you live in a dry climate or have dry skin a humidifyer works wonderfully. It provides soothing white noise and keeps your nose, eyes, and mouth comfortable throughout the night.

on 11/22/2005 If you have a stereo that can be set to go off at a certain time, try using it as an alarm clock. Make a tape/CD of your favorite lively music. Music is so much more pleasant than an alarm clock, and it won't make you grumpy as alarms sometimes do.
