on 11/22/2005 Arrange a kiddy pool, sandbox, and other activities in one part of the yard, and an adult area nearby where you can keep an eye on the kids but have some separate conversation.

on 11/22/2005 Set up a tent, make a small fire pit, buy food you would normally take camping and pack the cooler!

on 11/22/2005 Set up a bird bath and bird feeders close to your house. Get a good bird book and have fun watching. We see mocking birds, blue jays, doves, ibis, egrets, blackbirds, cardinals, etc. It's relaxing to watch them feeding and bathing.

on 11/22/2005 I was strapped for cash on the last vacation my and I family had last summer, so I put up a tent in the back yard with all the trimmings (lanterns, coolers, barbque etc.), and we went fishing in the nearby pond. It was fun for us.

on 11/22/2005 Unplug the phones or turn off the ringers! It feels much more like vacation when I'm "unreachable" by phone. You can always check messages on the machine or voicemail - just try not to do it often.
