on 11/22/2005 I recommend going to Haleakala summit (10,023 ft) from Kahului. The best time to go is 3:30 AM, before sunrise. Also, no venture on Maui is complete without driving to Hana. It is 55 miles from Kahului, so be sure to gas up in Paia before hitting the road.
on 11/22/2005 All the islands have their own unique flavor; but all of them are in the middle of paradise. If you are looking for city, look no further than Oahu. The next islands, in order of urban-like atmosphere are: Maui, Kauai, Lanai, Molokai. Try them all.
