Return to article: How to Help When you Feel You've Got Nothing to Give
on 10/22/2008 Sparkle4u2nv, that is exactly right. Our individual efforts may not seem like much, but it is those efforts combined with the work of others that makes a difference. angelanyc, we forget that those who help need help, too. Good reminder that helping includes supporting those who are in the danger zone!
on 10/21/2008 I remember feeling helpless during hurricane Katrina, thinking "what can I do?" I proposed to the online messageboard that I frequent, that we all try to make donations. The owner of the board set up a special paypal account and in a matter of a couple days we had over $1,000 in the account. No one donated a whole lot of money just a few dollars each and but it added up. Long story short, that was our way of helping and we all felt it to be a great accomplishment. ANd that helpless feeling was gone. This is a great article, it just goes to show that you don't have to move mountains to see the forest, just chop down a few trees and it still makes a difference. Sometimes just a smile, a hug and a few kinds words make more of a difference than a million dollars. You get 5 from me on this. Great job!
on 10/16/2008 Good points! If you don't have cash, donate food, sewing kit, flash lights, blanket and etc. These things will come in handy, when cash don't. Sometimes volunteering your spare time can make a big difference. I volunteer my time serving food for firefighters, Red Cross workers, and police during 9/11 in NYC. This made me felt really good.
on 10/13/2008 Good thoughts. A food drive at work can be a very good thing-especially right now when the food banks are having trouble getting food.
on 9/11/2008 This is such a good article. That person on the street just might be an angel. Besides that, by the grace of G-d (and friends) that just might be me or you! This article deserves more than 5 stars. Good job, Suexi!
on 8/17/2008 This is a great and well thought out how to!
on 8/17/2008 Lindaperry, I know this sentiment is widespread, and I also have not always given to people begging in the streets. But.... may you nor I ever find ourselves in such a predicament.
on 8/17/2008 Great article! Four stars * * * * In large cities, never, ever give to people begging on the street. Instead, give to those who are working (i.e. big tips to waitresses, give sales to independent sales people, donate clothes and items to the Red Cross and the Salvation Army). By donating that way, you know your money and your items are going to a good cause.
on 8/5/2008 Good. We can all help. Thanks!
