At our school, we started a group that helped inner city kids bring technology into their classrooms. It was a good way for us to take our skills and make a difference. We publicized our new group through our Facebook network and linked it to our Qlubb.com site, where we did all the planning and organizing. It was really great seeing everyone come together.

Use online tools to help minimize the management and facilitate member volunteering. We use Qlubb.com at our school - for online signup sheets, automatic task reminders, calendaring, etc. We also use Yahoogroups for email list (though Qlubb tells us it will have this soon as well). Stay away from Googlegroups - the whole gmail requirement is a nightmare.

Use online tools to help you. We use Qlubb.com for online event calendars, task assignments, todo list, etc. We also use Yahoogroups for email distribution (though Qlubb says they are going to have that soon too) - don't use Googlegroups (nightmare with the whole gmail requirement)

Some ideas for clubs, if you want to get more involved in your school: Girls Club which raises money for girls scholarships. Environmental Club, which plants plants. The Craft Club, who makes blankets, and trinkets and stuff.

In middle school I started a chess club and it excelled incredibly and I became very popular for taking charge and starting a club. Though becoming popular wasn't my main goal, it was cool to be noticed for something I tried hard to achieve.

We started the Esoume society. Esoume is just emouse spelled backward. We did lots of different things, like sports, reading, walking, writing and we helped lots of other people.

I started a club called Teen Connection, where we meet twice a month. One week we have a group bible study. Then the next week we do a community volunteer project. Not only do we get the word of God into our school, we also help our community!

Plan some fun activities before recruiting members to the club. It might depend on your grade and gender to determine what's fun. For example, 6th-8th grade girls might like a fashion designer club, while boys might like a video game club. Not many members will join if you do fashion design for boys. Think about what other people would like before starting a club.

When I was a junior in high school, I started an Environment Club. We did monthly school and road clean-ups, and started (and maintained) a recycling program. Not only did we help the environment, I got an awesome scholarship for it!

When I was in grade 6, I started a poetry club. I got lots of poetry books and set them up in bookcases. Then any member could sign out a book to read after the meetings, and to prepare for the upcoming ones!

The best sponser or advisor you can get is one who would have joined the club when they were in school, if possible. For example, try to have an amateur (or professional) playwrite or an english teacher to be advisor for a playwriting club.
