Today in high school you can't use your head as the full force of the tackle. So here is the proper new way to do it as taught by Coach Anthony Karchich of St. Joseph's Regional High School. Run at the person at full speed with your knees bent. Put your upper chest at about their high stomach area and thrust both of your arms up in the area of the armpits. Then blow out in a forward motion causing the person to fall down. -

First, keep your face mask up. When you're about to tackle the person, aim for the chest area (where the ball is). When you make contact, wrap your arms around the person, lift them as much as you can, and keep driving your legs! -

Run as fast as you can at the ball handler, lock them in and sprint at their waist. Pick them up and drive them to the ground. -

Tackle low to reduce the hit of a helmet to helmet contact and reducing your pain. When hitting the ball carrier, get low, and once in contact with his gut, pop your head up fast so you knock his head back. -

If your going against someone tough you have to bring it. If it's a big person, do this: When the carrier is trying to run you over, run back at him. Bend down and (hit which ever leg you think is best) run your (whichever arm is best) shoulder pad right through the carrier's leg, don't forget run your hardest, so the carrier will really feel the pain. Don't just walk away, help him up to be a good sport. -

The tip to hitting hard is to hit the ball carrier on the side that the ball is on, and spring up and let your head or shoulder hit the ball. -

If the ball carrier is a lot larger than you, and you are sure you can't overpower him, run at him full speed, and at the last second dive down and put your shoulder into his knee or shin. Be sure you wait until the last second to dive down, because if you do so too early he will simply jump (hurdle) over you. -

If the running back or wide receiver running with the ball manages to get by you, the easiest way to take them down is run until you are about a few feet behind the ball carrier, then dive and push in the back of his knees. They should go right down. -

If you're a CB or a MLB with a carrier running directly toward you, keep in line with your charge toward him, and at the last second; drive the top of your helmet into the carrier's holding arm, or just directly to the football to knock it out of his grasp. -

when you tackle anyone bigger then you , never go anyhigher then the waist for the wrap, make sure you hit his legs with all your might and keep your head at their crotch and when they start to overpower you go at the ankles to ensure the bring down. -

Run fast but don't over persue, this prevents the cut-back, keep your helmet up so as not to hit him with your helmet, always keep the ball carrier in your sights, focus on their waist as the waist always tells you where the ball carrier is headed, then upon contact club your arms around the ball carrier explode with your hips and drive him into the dirt. -

To take somebody down, run full speed, make eye contact on the player, and when you're a foot away from him, just put your weight and strength into his thighs and wrap his legs up.
